There's no hard and fast rule that converts an index number to a start group.

They will determine the cut off index values for each start group based on the field that has entered and then split the indexes into appropriate/desired group sizes.

So if last year's field had more riders with higher indexes, the index cut off for each group will be closer, if that makes any sense.

An extreme example, if there are 500 riders with indexes below 10, but they want to limit the bunch size to 100, the cuttoff for the first group will probably be 1 or 2. Compared to if the same 500 riders have indexes spread across 0 to 20, the cutoff for the first group will prob be around 3 or 4.

So even if your index doesn't change, you can either drop or go up a group.

Yeah, I get that, was just a bit of a kick in the balls to see the start group drop haha

you have to admit its probably not the easiest job to get the starting groups right. Especially for events like this where the majority of participants do maybe 1 other event during the year.

I'll take myself as an example. Last 2 events I did was 2018 947 and 2018 CTCT. For the CTCT I rode with my dad and it took us just over 6 hours, the 947 i did on my own, but only started training in September. Since then I've done (by my standards) big mileage and training and will probably be at my fittest ever for the CTCT. But how would the organisers know this without me doing any races to prove it.

Or then theres the cases where people have done a few races and not really performed that well and get seeded in @ and 1A.....them bloodsuckers will be hanging on for  as long as they can

Is it too early to start discussing the weather on the day?

It's still next month, which is a long time for some people, but c'mon like IT"S NEXT MONTH

How could it be too early to discuss the weather, especially the wind?

It's never too early, so it's not to early now.

let's go.

The brains at accuweather will give you a weather forecast for as long as the ANC is in power.

1E

Stopped being a ppa member in 2015 and slowly starting accumulating penalty points every year from not doing road events. 2D start last year on my DS.

Started one tonner 2018 109km in L, then SCT in 2A, rode 2:48 which equates to a D ppa seeding.

Could have been a group or 2 better if I did more races.

1E seems about right.
