Saw a MF'er of a Puffadder this morning on the yellow line mid way up the last drag, about 70m from the top) top of Llandudno from Camps Bay side. It was as thick as my leg and about half a metre in length if not more, oh, it was also squished by a car, but blood was still fresh so couldn't have happened more than about an hour before we went past. And this was about just before 9am...

The oke infront of me never saw it, i swerved and almost went as far across as the opposite yellow lane(because im literally the scardest oke on this planet) and the oke next to me, like myself, also nearly shat himself proper because we saw it and the 2 guys infront of us didn't. I assume if it was moving he would've seen it though.. But FML, That thing was a proper Fatty...

Also, this is a screeshot from a video my mate took of a Cape Cobra(Not the cricket player) on the Milnerton Cricket Oval yesterday, a guy tried walking toward it to kinda usher it backwards to the bush which is when it stands up and hisses and then continues across the field...

That puffy definitely lost a game of chicken with a car!

Was a big guy for sure, but the size of your leg? You've been skippin' leg day boet😝

Went past it at around 7h30 with my girlfriend who is still quite nervous on the bike and has a massive snake phobia. Obviously it was right at the point where we decided to pass a group of other riders... chaos!

Hahahaha

I'm sure a few other cars maybe flattened him more though which may have widened him a bit because I don't skip leg day, it tries to skip me and doesn't succeed LOL...

I want to thank everyone that has contributed to this thread for ruining my ability to enjoy a ride.

Every blade of grass that brushes my leg, every suspicious looking stick in the trail, every noise in the bushes next to me as I ride is of course the largest, most aggressive puff adder cobra mamba.

I now ride in fear and paranoia, cheers!

So you understand my relieve each time I recognised a "snake" as a stick or rope during my morning ride .... 😋

You people complaining about snakes are missing the real danger at the moment. It's not snakes, or cars or even humans.

Ticks. There are a gazillion ticks on the trails at the moment.

I've come across them by Banhoek, Contermans, Bloemendal and yesterday at Hoogekraal.

This to me is more of a problem than the odd snake. You can see a snake from a distance and that allows you options to avoid them. A tick is an entirely different problem. They're near impossible to spot while riding and you're lucky if you don't have one or more crawling on you after the ride. Even better if you've not been bitten yet either.

We regularly do a tick inspection after trail rides in Spring ....  way too many hitch a ride back home !!! 😬

I've taken to spraying my legs with Peaceful Sleep before riding/running/ going into the veld.

Any mosquito spray/lotion that has DEET in it will apparently work, but PS mentioned Ticks on the bottle, so it's what I grabbed.

Sadly  it doesn't do much to deter  snakes though. Unless you carry a can and a lighter with you. The VWS guys might not be happy with that suggestion though.

Saw a snake flying across the ground one day at wynberg park like this. Man that thing was moving, not sure what it was but it was a fair distance away.
