So with the bluetooth dropping issue, tuesday night I nearly threw my toys out the cot, minute 18 of an ftp test and it dropped connection.

What I have since figured out, my watch tries to connect to the phone and the hr strap while they are trying to connect to zwift and the trainer, so I put my suunto in the far end of the house, all connection issues sorted, did 4 flawless intervals last night with bluetooth connection. Give it a try maybe it helps? can't promise results though

Agree with the others who suggest Fulgaz. Ideal if you just want to train solo with real recordings of iconic routes. Zwift is better for competition and community but currently enjoying Fulgaz. Fave route is Melbourne Beach Road Full.

Check out Fulgas - it is real videos of climbs, group rides with Movistar and and.

Personally I think it’s awaome and very real when climbing and gradient changes etc.

With training given by a coach which one would be best to get - how do your athletes get their training done on cold / rainy days?

We recently got the Kick 4 to get Jo through winter and am thinking of displaying Zwift / Fulgas / other via phone / laptop (app not on TV) to our  'smart' TV. I'm just worried about the lag to get the footage from phone / laptop to the TV.

We have a Media Player but our kids won't be keen to watch cycling so will have to use a phone / laptop to get it to another TV.

I've tested streaming Zwift from my Android tablet to our new Hisense smart TV, and it works quite well. There didn't seem to be too much lag, just some image artifacts here and there.

It probably depends on the Wifi signal strength in the room - our router is in another room.

I don't do this often, as my wife normally watches TV while I train, plus the tablet is on a DIY stand right in front of me anyway. But if you are going to use a phone, displaying it on the TV would be much nicer.

Trainer road is proper training .

Zwift is firstly a game , then training .

Connection issues are rife with Zwift . My Garmin Connect was on in the background and caused many issues . Once I turned it off I have had no connectivity problems .

Maybe some other gps type programme is causing issues too .

I use Rouvy, not as social as Zwift a little bit cheaper but more routes you can choose from even make your own, when you use your own GPX route, you will get a birds eye view of your route as you go along but you do have the option of linking video, does have workouts and you can import your own as well, I still need to plan a social ride/race and invite some saffers.

some complain that the power on climbs feels harder than real life.

Wait what?  Rouvy has routes without climbs?!?  :whistling:

I get my money's worth when I run their virtual routes.  The climbs are torturous.

No problem with connection via my Samsung phone and mirrored to my smart TV.

Slight tangent to the question ....

For those that only use a trainer occasionally .... would you recommend the free options, and which ?  OR, are there anything out there that you can buy outright (As apposed to monthly subscription) ?

This you can buy outright https://perfprostudio.com/

There are not many free options, you can use Golden Cheetah in trainer mode and create your own workouts or import workouts from ERGDB https://ergdb.org/

Maximum trainer is for free https://maximumtrainer.com/home

Following this thread.

Saw one of my fellow riders on Strava using Fulgaz - pricing seems great and the reviews too!

Then I must give the free trial a go next week and test it out. Hope the Windows Beta isn't that bad.

“For me, this is a much better choice than Zwift. I don’t want to race people, I just want to get on and do great rides that suit what me. I’m now enjoying an amazing feeling of freedom and adventure”

“I can’t believe how much this has improved my climbing. I went to the alps last summer and thanks to FulGaz, I already knew every hairpin. Amazing.”

“Other apps simply didn’t work for me. Now I’m addicted to FulGaz. I can’t wait for new rides to try each week. The variety is amazing, I never get bored.”

“Much to my surprise, this isn’t a toy, it’s a serious training tool that get’s real-world tough very quickly. Time simply flies by as I get stuck into some of my favourite local rides. Love it!”

Rouvy all the way over Zwift if you serious about training. Been using it for many years and it’s a winter life saver. I use an old windows 7 laptop which does not connect to the tv and does not work with the newer augmented reality videos. Will upgrade to a better laptop this winter.

I really like the ability to ride certain routes in summer and then be able to upload them to rouvy and ride them again on the IDT

Hi SwissVan

Please tell me more about uploading the outside rides....i used Rouvy for a while but the program was not that user friendly for me...  . Will i be able to replicate a hill repeat indoors? I do not have power meter on bike. I use a Garmin Edge 800 head unit with speed and cadence on on bike and then HR strap.....How realistic is the ride on the IDT i have the Kickr Snap?

Also check that you do not have two devices that are linked with the trainer. For example if you have a Garmin with trainer control functions, do not have it running in trainer mode at the same time as your PC. The two fight for control of the trainer and its a bit of a problem.

Not had any problems with power going down when climbing or putting effort in so cant help there.

Good suggestions on alternatives. I am on Rouvy right now, but not tried RGT yet. Zwift just did not work for me. Prefer real videos. Rouvy also has augmented reality videos now. So a blend of Zwift and Real video footage.

Good luck
