Cape Town Cycle Tour 2020

i'm thinking its the one or two small bumps on the way to m3 through the houses. it is basically the first part where the "i ride a bike once a year"- people start walking in the lower groups lol. The 25km is a typo imo..think its supposed to be 25 min.

i think he is implying to smash them and use the flat m3 to muizenberg to rest your legs basically. dont think that advice is aimed at upper-middle groups lol

edit: if you're a slow poke and go slow up those bits...you easily lose 45 - 60 min....instead of suffering for 15 min and basically going the same speed on the flat bit that follows. Pair that with the 45m leisurely walk up the ramp at the start and you'll be racing the cutoff by simonstown.

edit: I sent that pic to my wife a few days ago....i just need to convince her still that it is ok for you legs to burn and/or get out of the saddle and/or keep the cadence up when you hit hill lol. she is getting better but she now does this thing where she tries and go faster up a hill....just to stop short of the apex of said hill by 5m and start 'resting' before shes over it ....instead of resting on the downhill that follows. She loses so much time doing that haha

After varsity and rowing for many years we decided to run a marathon. We were fit; how hard could it be ?

I had watched Comrades on TV and concluded that everybody ends up walking in any case, so built a strategy to go as hard as I could for as long as I could and then just walk with the rest of them, but at least I'd be walking with the guys in front.

It turned out to have been a k@k idea...….

A few years back when the Momentum DualX was still a thing I gave it a try. It was pre kids so I was also fit, like 12000km a year fit as well as gym 3/4 times a week. I ran a bit on the treadmil at gym leading up to the first event and thought how hard can it be. I almost died on that first run, I hit the bike leg with a sky high HR and due to the nature of MTB it just wouldn't go down. I still did pretty well but I really under estimated the running. I did a bit of running on the road after that and it helped a lot. Pity those things are no longer.

On a side note, work took me down to CT this week and with time to spare I decided to drive the scenic route up Chappies yesterday, you know just to get me in the spirit of the best ride ever waiting in a few weeks...

Let me disclaim (is that even a word?) that a probable generalization is to follow but, yoh some of the Kaapse cyclist certainly know not what a single file is. Just through the gate up Noordhoek I almost sidemirrorslapped a group of no less than 3 riders riding abreast up that 2 lane road, taking up the entire left hand lane. Round the corner and up the real climb (you know there by the cliffs and the "tunnel") and two gents are riding abreast, chatting with animated arms and swerving lines (and swerving cars!). Same thing at the top and same thing down into Houtbay.

The poor oke who put up all those "single file please" signs (and painted the single file markings on the road) along the drive must feel like the installers of indicators on BMW's.

Be safe out there fellow cyclists!

Sounds like my first Argus. Did almost no training and went round on a 26er that was a size too small for me. At the end I decided i would never get on a bike again. The next day things didn't  seem as bad and I'm doing my 11th this year

ha ha, so how far did you get before you started walking/pulled out?

I think most people with reasonable fitness can fudge a 21km/half.

Once you go beyond 30km you can't fake it anymore and have got nowhere to hide!

on one knysna half I did in about 1:45 i eneded up running next to mark boucher for the last 3/4 kms. He was not having fun, he totally underestimated how much harder it would be than the 10km they normally did as a team and went out too hard - and was openly regretting the whole idea and their false bravado. I wonder if he's ever done one again?

The real joke of course was that Biff was in the middle of his "KFC endorsement phase", with his belly resembling a bucket, and was also doing his first 1/2 marathon. He was well back, maybe 2:30 when he came through. of course the MC in stadium really hyped it up when he came in, stumbling like a drunk. The look of pain on his face is etched in my memory, I think he'd rather have taken on wasim and waqar blindfolded with no box than that final trip round the stadium.

I have a question regarding the Junior cycle tour...

Can a parent accompany a kiddie doing the 5km or 10km Cycle Tour or do they gun it by themselves?

ha ha, so how far did you get before you started walking/pulled out?.

The only time I pulled out was at the Fountains drive-in, but that us another story.

I got to about 28km and then did a 14kay impersonation of a Napoleonic troepie on the winter retreat from Moscow.

So, presumably seeding by next week Friday as last year? But since the entries are still open and there is no official closing date, wondering if this is still gonna be the case or are they going to wait till the last second?

Pretty sure it's just after Tour De PPA. That usually counts towards CTCT seeding.
