that's some sprint from the bullet in the HoutBayHandiman kit, given the age of the kit (its been Jackhammers for some years already), with that sort of sprint he's in with a shout for the Argus L group bunch finish, savage middle finger at the end - all the signs that he takes no prisoners

hope I don't cross him the street outside Jackhammers where it gets real busy

the aero tuck in the slipstream of the bakkie to catch it and then hitting the left hand side with full venom is slightly undone by the angle of that stem which suggests the some aging and lower back issues

oh how I miss the build up to the Argus....

No, he does. Yes, we've all had close calls multiple times with cars. Yes they don't give a toss, but you can mitigate the risk by riding ultra defensively. That's all.

own the road, ride in the middle of the lane if required

Yeah, another unpopular action. I will go to the middle of the road in sections where  it’s narrow and I have to worry about being doored or with lots of concealed entrances/exits. Also no matter the time of day I ride with flashing lights front and rear. I try be polite about it and will move left as soon as safe to do so with a thank you to vehicle behind me.

Condolences to the family of the deceased.

hand signals goes a long way toward clear communication.

That said, we have more than our fair share of Peter Oliver's Eating Sweets at Easter.

Aus is having an emigration drive. We should do our bit and encourage some to take up the offer

This latest incident really brings home how dangerous road cycling and certain sections of road are.

I agree 100%

You also can't just switch off and enjoy the view. You must anticipate and slow down.

I am especially aware of trucks and 4x4's towing boats and just let them go in front on narrow roads.

The main road is not for setting a PR.

One of my pet hates in the PPA and their Stay Wider of the Rider marketing.

These callous nincompoops insist on handing out Stay Wider pamphlets to cyclist. WTF is a cyclist going to do? Stay wider of the pastel P.N.S I just passed? I'd love to stay well clear but unfortunately I'm trying not to hit by Frikkie and Marietjie out for a Sunday drive in their 4TjunHer with their rugby team offspring belting out O RyPerd in the back (Yes this was Kalk Bay main road late Saturday morning) or Ubers moving some impatient European tourist to their next coffee break. Drivers are the target market so train the drivers FFS.

I'm seriously considering boycotting CTCT as the mayor and WP gov is all talk. A lot of Winde blowing from the Foreshore

Is it just me or is the annual anti cyclists brigade more vocal than ever? it's not even feb yet and it seems to have ramped up already to 1st weekend of march "THEY MUST PAY ROADTAX" levels.

I had 7 run ins with motorists on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. I’d say the tension is already close to maximum. Lots of deliberate left turns in front of me and trying to apex a cnr already occupied.
Uber, 4tjunhers and tourbusses the main culprits

Yep
Motorist anger and aggression is dialled up to 11 already.
Unprovoked hooting and left hooks are a regular occurrence.

Hence my point that its your bet bet to try not to swerve. Train yourself and in reality it can work like that.

Please, let's not be ridiculous. You can't train yourself to ride head on into a door. It is not a door opening 20 metres in front of you. The door is opening so close in front of you that you wouldn't be able to react either way. Where you subsequently land is pot luck

Would you swerve for a pedestrian or wildlife in your motor vehicle?
