Thankfully we didn't get much rain on route other than off the start...

Conditions weren't great but honestly we were expecting a lot worse.

Still on my first set of brake pads ????

Have not been following this thread properly, and did not hear/see you were doing the Epic.

Nice man, hope all is going well for you.

Did a race in Wellington many years ago in rain. Tell you one thing; some of those single tracks turns into unridable mud slides where it is just impossible to even make the turn when hitting the berm. Brakes just means bugger all. The bike just slides on into the bushes.

Huge talent, hard and smart worker and very underrated by SA and his team. Also barely out of nappies

Surely this can only be good for his CV ????

What a ride of his career by Matt Beers. Awesomeness. Good investment by Team Specialized.

Congratulations to Specialiced, in male and female groups.

Good to see Scott, Trek right up there.  Giant and Liv following closely.

Interesting wheels:

" Rolling Corey along are Astral Serpentine carbon wheels, which have a 30mm internal rim diameter"

The wheels will look very small compared to standard 29" (+/- 730mm ) diameter ones.

Would be interesting to know more about the media ebikes.

I was  surprised to see how easily Sahm managed to stay with the top riders with that huge backpack on his shoulders on he fast downhills .

I have ridden the Swartberg pass a couple of times with a heavy backpack.

2 weeks ago at Eselfontein was the first time I used it during an event.  I was concerned about how it would impact the handling ....

The "feeling" on the downhills and twisties were excellent, even on the few sections where I actually were going fast.

That said, first few twisties, I was running wide .... I had to adjust my entry line just a bit to compensate.

The one lesson I did learn ....  I had a number of light pedal strikes .... only later realised the suspension was riding lower under all the extra weight ....yea, rookie error.  Now to get the right shock pressures for these rides ....

A few camera shots showed the ebikes skid to halt at water points, one camera showed them swop out a battery.  Thing is this could be 60 seconds stop .... the rate at which the catch up to the riders were incredible !!

Wonder if the speed assist was lifted on these bikes ?
