the sceptic in me thinks that this is probably just RB leasing out their wind tunnel in return for some branding tie up lol. F1 teams have to do this more and more due to regulated wind tunnel allowances. They are all sitting on $200mil buildings they cant use all the time...so they lease them out to whomever can afford to pay for a few hours.

theres "no" f1 in that bicycle.. Adrian Newey probably scoffed at the idea, He could design it over coffee at breakfast...it would be that easy for a genius like him imo haha.

"ain't nobody got time for static bicycle aerodynamics"

The fleshy moving object between the saddle and the bars is where most of the aero or not aero happens on a bicycle. Look at a motoGP bike's front view...

if its about outwash, boundary layers and flow conditioning...these things were alot more 'f1':

The bike seems thick on marketing and thin on actual new tech. Most of the aspects have been on bikes for a few years now.

That said - I'm keen to see a more hands on article where they dig a little deeper. That kind of money, brainpower and opportunity MUST have broken some new ground.

other than the paint job giving away what flovis will tell ya about the airstream patterns over the frame I can't see much F1 inspiration.

I guess we'll have to wait and see

Looks very similar to the new Factor Hanzo and Canyon Speedmax to my eye

Seat tube looks pretty laid back and that chasm between the rear wheel and seat tube is a penalty.

Basically, it looks like someone got their kids a 3D printer

The BMC has a lot less wetted area so from a drag perspective it already has an edge on the other bikes.

looking at other pics of the RBBMC the tube shapes are quite different so that's probably where the innovation is

interesting you say that - both red bull and ineos mclaren have partnered up with America's Cup teams for AC37 in 2024. (i wonder if pinarello have a similiar TT bike in the works or have already done all the marginal gains)

those boats are now also needing to be very aero as they hit 50kts regularly and average in the high 30s around a course.

Yes i know but thats totally different. Boats and planes and f1 cars have much more in common in that sense. Those yachts are in that sense also the pinnacle of boat racing,
borderline aeroplanes lol. The are only boats some of the time, like f1 cars are only really cars because they have 4 wheels.

Adrian newey (rb) actually took a back seat from designing the teams cars a few years back to focus on his americas cup obsession. Its also no secret ineos has a major share( 30% or something) in the mercedes f1 team. I think its natural for the best aerodynamicists in the world to want to test their skills in less regulated environments to test and learn new ideas.

And the knowledge/ideas cross pollinate for sure - evident this year with ground effect cars and their underfloor keel/hull designs.

I can imagine there is literally nothing someone  that has dipped their toe in americas cup/f1 aero can learn from a TT bikes ‘aero’.  In that sense i think thats a more one way street. Maybe sonething to throw a junior on.
But that was my point. The teams have sll these people/talent pools and infrastructure and they arent allowed to use to the max to make them profitable in F1 alone.
Even CFD and computer time is regulated. So they use other projects removed from f1 to test and learn, or just plain rent out the infrastructure.

Why ferrari is returning to Le’mans for the first time since ford beat them in the 60s. They are moving staff /technical expertise sideways.

Those yachts are amazing pieces of engineering. Can look at them for hours.

Ineos GB sailing have actually moved their base to the main mercedes office. far away from water!

So far Ferrari have not linked up with PradaPirelli and rumours of Haas working with american magic are there too.

There is a persistent rumour on the sailing forums that the F1 teams are getting involved in so they can use these "side projects" and resources to actually spend more time on F1 and pretend the engineers were working on boats. i don't know how practical or regulated this would work in the real world.

the same way as "b-teams" sharing wind tunnels with sister teams....."oh...uhm we're busy here with our stuff in your space....please close your eyes if you can. If you happen to see my homework or talk to an engineer at the vending machine about new breakthrough aero concepts..please forget what you saw or heard, pretty please" lol

on the topic of HAAS. ferrari built them a factory IN Maranello next to their own...and moved some of those extra engineers over there too haha. It's almost too obvious. I mean, they cant UNLEARN things they already know. There are already rumblings from rival teams that the HAAS and Ferrari looks too similar for it to be coincidence...kind of like the mercedes/force india debacle 2 years ago.

Edit: as you mentioned...now a sailing team is in mercedes f1 office...how do the governing bodies of both series (AM cup /f1) differentiate between who works on what and where...surely its as easy as a job title on a payslip/contract. Clever indeed. Maybe i'm underestemating a pseudo bicycle company tie up haha. - "we have 100 engineers working on aero for this here bicycle - we swear."
