They are trying to give you a subtle message, but you do not seem to appreciate it.

:P

One the few regrets I have .... not having done the Argus when I still had the knees for it ..... (back then it still was the Argus)

Having done the Vines and Views seeding event I am curious to see where I will be starting ....

I will gladly start right at the back, again ... as the rules says ebikes should.  But looking at the number of ebikes in the results, and looking at the very small number of ebikes starting at the back it is clear the rules are not applied ....

Certainly a lot easier from the back .... consistently faster than the weenend riders that dust off their bikes once a year .... more importantly, no fast trains from the back.

It must get interesting starting earlier .... passing slow riders with the late starting fast trains shouting to get past ....

Not to worry. I have my own challenges. My heart is still screwed after either the J&J vaccine or COVID or both. Never tested positive for COVID but my last CoCT (2021) I had to abandon halfway because of heart issues. I am still not back to where I was in 2020. I have been stuck on 8 tours done now for almost 3 years. Did not enter for 2022, as I was nowhere near ready.

Saw the price of this event today and it's a firm no for me. I just cannot see the reason it has to be so pricey. R755 till end next month thereafter R950. I spent R350 on the Jonkershoek Enduro and I had a million times more fun. What am I missing?

I know the whole "headline sponsor" story bla bla bla.

But just for informational purposes for those who don't really know and why people have every right to be fed up about the inflation of the entry fee every year (I'm pretty sure the CTCT also has more entrants)

CTCT Entry - R755 - Winning Prize Money R45 000 Mens and R45 000 ladies (Total of R200 000 across all categories)

94.7 Entry - R625 - Winning Prize Money R200 000 each male and female. 2nd place R75 000 Male and female. 3rd place R15 000 male and female. (There is prize money all the way to 15th place, and then for other specific categories aswell  - https://ridejoburg.co.za/prize-money-947-ride-joburg/ )

It's no wonder why last years 94.7 saw the likes of Willie Smit, Reinhardt Janse Van Rensburg, Darryl Impey, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio to name but a few attending 94.7, and none of the above bothered with the CTCT.

then again if a sponsor can afford to pay maybe appearance money well thats their model..the cape town tour has a strong and visible charity element...and its smack in the euro season etc..

Since you're not comparing apples with apples I could throw in a lap dance at a brackenfell nudie bar to your list at half that price

ya oukies, its not great.

But neither is inflation, or the dudes living in tents that watch us privileged moaners cycle passed their front door, maybe the extra 100 will help them, we can all hope at least ...

We can moan all we want but if you want to ride the funride world champs then better enter early as the late fee is a proper kick in the passport :)

oh and if you think this is an expensive entry fee i suggest you dont look at the cost of MTB stage races, you might suffer a heart attack.

Parting thoughts - ride as slow as you can , have a breakfast on the way, enjoy the view, take pics and get your moneys worth, it's only a few rondtjies more than a ride in the cable car and costs less than a bagel and flat white in Seapoint.

So who got sucked into the Ciovita page on the Racetec entry system ?  I certainly scrolled back up to the arm warmers and T shirt a few times .... way too easy to spend more on this page than the entry fee itself.   Thankfully I dodged this one.

How many of us, myself included, are going to spend money at the Expo ...

The R100 increase is enough to fuel these threads .... and I still think in bad taste.  But we spend more at many of the stops along the way.

The drastic increases for late entrants .... just get the message out, and get your buddies to register early.

Who really thinks this will make a significant impact on the event numbers ?

My friend doing his first is comparing this to current MTB entry fees and does not consider this as expensive

I hear y'all. And no, MTB races are also stupidly priced, so this is why I'm more of free rider. I guess I'm being pedantic since I can ride the route any day of the year should I choose to.

I was just a bit taken aback at the sudden price jump. My first entry in 2014 was half the current going rate.

I posted earlier what little this event has brought in for PPA over the just few years due to the cancellations/drop in numbers/static entry fees.

Late entry fee is smart. I don't begrudge any race who rewards the entrant who puts his hand up early and commits. When I used to organise races the uncertainty over last minute entries was such an unnecessary headache.

I also dont have an issue with hiking prices the later you enter. It must be hell to try and predict numbers, especially since the cancelled event and covid. I assume the last minute entries after that went up exponentially.

Euro pros doing SA races during Euro off season.

Alan Hatherly won the PPA funride 2 weeks ago and there wasn't even a podium presentation, let alone a little koevertjie for the winner...

From what I understand, not sure where the article link is which I read it from. The PPA races are listed as "fun rides" and not "races" as in order to register them as "races" there needs to be prize money and a few other requirements such as riders paying for their CSA licenses or Day license etc. And these need to be met in order for it to be labelled as such.. I think all you receive at PPA  fun rides are the sponsored bottles of wine from the hosting venue like Windmeul, Paardeberg etc etc..

WP Winter League is advertised/listed as "races" because they have prize money and you need a CSA license or day license to participate in any category.

Someone with more knowledge on the exact requirements could perhaps fill us in here.
