Had some family visiting us from SA and the kids really wanted them to swim in Lake Achen.  We have 5 seats in the car but we were six.  No problem.  I'll take the economy class ticket to Lake Achen on the bike.  A nice 156 km of riding with a fun day out with the family.  Works for me.

Into the Wilderness, to work on a cold drizzly Cape Town morning. I took a different route from my usual, along the Common and past Rondebosch Junior school. It was fantastic to see quite a few kiddies and their parents riding to school together. I made a point of having a chat to each and every one, telling them what a fantastic thing they are doing and teaching their kids!

Not me, but young D took his old classic up to Rhodes Memorial for lunch on a cold and rainy cape Winters day - something that's very welcome. Says he appreciated the fat 32mm front tyre I recently fitted for him, because the road up there was extremely slick today. I like how the lions hug the frame in the picture and thought I'd share.

Tell me about that 32mm on the front, and clearance?

Got 25's on my alpina at the moment, but if 32's will fit... NOM NOM

The 32 mm JUST fits into the fork with a mm or 2 to spare. It even goes through the brakes if not pumped too hard. But at the back the maximum I could get in is 28mm. There the limiting factor is the short chain stays where it starts to rub behind the seat tube. With a 28mm it has about 2 mm space. The combination gives the bike a real magic carpet ride.

Have a look at Olympic Cycles and let them search through the hundreds of tyres hanging from the rafters. I saw some old stock for great prices there. All wire bead though, so a bit heavier than foldables, but not important for my application.

I had a short day and finished work early. It was pouring like the monsoon and the street outside was under water, but after an extra cup of good coffee, the rain "stopped" and I hit the road home. After the last 2 years,us Capies now delight in the wet!

Yup, you guessed it, just around the corner, the heavens opened again and to my shame, I dived in under the awning of a car dealership to keep the laptop dry, well, that's my excuse for making such a ninny move!

The Liesbeek going through Newlands in a muddy brown flood - that sure is something I haven't seen the last 2 winters! Same for the waterfalls streaming off Table Mountain when the clouds opened up a little! What an invigorating ride! I'll forever be a Karoo boy, forever in awe of rain!

Was that today? We can really thank God for the rains we (Cape province) had the last few weeks.
