(Actually got it from @Prince Albert Cycles 😎 ) It takes the sting out of the hard knocks and don't I notice any unnecessary flex otherwise. The 'compression dive' that many people expect isn't really an issue as the range of motion is really quite small. They are not light, nor are they cheap. BMC bikes are now incorporating a version of them on some of their bikes I need to get one for my Wife's bike as well. https://redshiftsports.com/products/shockstop-suspension-stem https://bikerumor.com/bmc-ics-mtt-suspension-stem-by-redshift/ Edited January 5, 2023 by splat Prince Albert Cycles and capediver 1

The Ouzo Posted January 6, 2023 Share After yet another night of restless sleep and waking up to wet roads from the rain during the night, I was tempted to not ride. I’m glad I went out. ChrisF Posted January 6, 2023 Share Arrrrgus training .... Also left later than planned .... uhmmm ... tire pressure low. Onto the stand and topped up the Sludge. Around 50km I felt some spray on my leg. Sludge spraying from the rear wheel. By the time I stopped it had sealed, and the pressure was good. 10km later it repeated, and then again. Think it was a piece of glass. At Philladelphia it was time to plug the tyre. Finally got to use a plug on my own bike .. 😋 throttles, mecheng89, Frosty and 5 others

Except it's been around since day one. I love tech. I love the latest things, talking about the latest things and riding and racing the best I can afford. The SS, however, reintroduces, to me at least, the simplicity of riding a bike. No pondering gears, you ride what you have. Love to spin? This is tge bike for you! Love to grind? This is the bike for you! It's just another tool for exploring the local 'burbs, or the region at large with your mates, making new ones along the way, and taking awesome snaps. Frosty Posted January 6, 2023 Share Contrary to popular belief, there are three gears/speeds on a SS: - Sit and spin; - Stand and grind; - Walk and push. mecheng89, nonky, SilverRider and 9 others 3

So technically riding a fixie is then easier than SS? Since it has an extra gear… - reverse 😅 Jackal355, Frosty, mecheng89 and 2 others 1

The Hubber Kobus rides the Tygerberg trails on his collection of single speed bikes. Spinning the easy bits, then grinding up to grade 3 or 4. Then mid stride he jumps off and runs the steeper bits. 😉 He regularly drops 1x12 full suss riders on his single speed rigid bikes 🙈 RESPECT 👍 mecheng89, nonky and Frosty

It's almost a completely different discipline to riding a normal mountain bike and a trail you've ridden a thousand times will suddenly be brand new. SS road bikes have this effect too, but I found the difference to be even bigger on a trail. Geared bikes are more efficient, faster, and easier to ride than a SS, no doubt about that. But if you remove the pretense that a ride needs to be those three things, you get a new perspective on riding. Everyone should have a SS in their stable, and luckily they're usually cheap as chips.
