5 years ago hubber Josias planted a little seed with this thread about his first 100km race

https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/145741-sneeuberg-crawl/

I was intrigued by the idea of this "Snow Mountain" in the middle of the Karoo + that you can ride your bike in the area. It took me 5 years to finally get my ducks in a row and made the trip last Friday to the small town of Murraysburg,

Friday afternoon I did a bit of exploring

Not sure whose idea it was to plant all the telephone poles in the middle of the street, drunk driving here might be challenging

Murraysburg doesn't have much going for it but the church (in the process of being restored) is stunning

Saturday morning before the race, small field, mostly locals & few people from Bloem. We were set off by the local NG dominee with skriflesing & gebed.

Racing/riding through typical Karoo landscape, a bit brown now with the big drought in the area but still beautiful

Happy guy in the picture is not me

Finally the famous Sneeuberg (I think..) (but no snow this time of the year)

And happy me at the finish line, gravel roads in great condition but resulted in a ridiculously fast race (no chance of "crawling"), was completely blown after the 100km

So thanks Josias for that post many years ago - it's little things like that that makes me love the hub

I had no idea there were trails there? Any further details you can share?

One thing I have learnt is investigate your neighborhood

Not really a trail, just a reserve area in Germiston just off the Edenvale off ramp from the R21. Been riding it since I was a kid. Good for a quick after work ride

Right.

Time to stop being a pussy.

Set up done, time to start clocking some proper miles.

I only have two goals for cycling in 2020.

1) Settle a score with the Xariep 320 km. This year the team thing didnt work. Will try as an individual next year.

2) Try to complete the Munga.
