Those views are stunning, must be awesome to ride there !

Not the easiest terrain so it's slow moving.. the one side of the dam is completely rideable and fun, but the other side it's either loose stones and rocks, or sand..but still fun in a challenging way! The last 4km stretch(last photo) is basically a hike-a-bike situation climbing over boulders and streams.

I was just looking through the segments I did on my Tokai ride two days ago, and noticed that a number of segments had insane KOM times.

I'm happy to admit that I'm not the fastest rider around, but I found this particular segment leaderboard difficult to believe....

Segment is "Top of vasbyt to first corner".Screenshot_20220107_092309.jpg.d5bef0b5267164ef73796a6a746b0d3f.jpg

Most likely Strava glitches that tend to happen on very short segments (I assume its a short segment) rather than people deliberately cheating.

Boschendal?  That looks enticing. I've only done Plaisir and Banhoek so far around there. Seems like it's time to expand my horizons.

I don't often ride there. The climb sucks and I'm lazy. I also somehow only ever go then when it's blistering hot. The trails are really nice though so worth a visit.

Bull and Chicken is sick. Inferno and Sugar Bowl are also really fun.

Went out this morning to visit the Vaal river at Schoemansdrift. Took the dun wiele and and had about 6km of gravel road to ride. Seems like they get rain every night in the Vredeford dome. Luckily the gravel is sandy and wel drained after last nights rain, quite thrilling to dodge rocks and holes with a slide here and there in the sand. Nature is bursting with lush greenery and the air is clear and fresh. What a pleasure to be out.

Good thing you took pictures, we expect February to be even more rainy. Going to look way different then. And the Koepel is not always this green. Still, a wonderful place, no matter what the season brings.

Give a shout next time when you pass Tierfontein.

Wilderness to Knysna in a race - I say race but for some not so much - these are my stats, not very impressive and I had a bad day out, just no power all day  - I do this route regularly and I’m usually faster so I thought in a race I’d be even quicker

But I’m a field of 250Ish I was one of 12 gravel bikers. A handful of pro/semi pros (Oli Munnik won)

However the guy who finished this extremely hot and hilly route first was on an ebike - average speed, a mere 35kms

we all started at different times - mountain bikers first so they could work together. Then the gravel bikers followed by the battery brigade. Oli and his mates dropped me on the second pedal stroke and I rode the rest of the race passing the below average mountain bikes and getting overtaken by (mostly) well built people in running shoes up steep hills. It was a complete solo ride and a rough mental battle for someone with no bmt

i like everybody on bikes and ebikes are great but I really don’t like being passed with so little effort.
It hurts my mid packer pride

Next time out I’ll use flat bars so I can set of with the mtbers and get shelter - stupid rule really
