Listen to your body take a break from riding but don't stop exercising. Go to the gym or start running just don't get lazy sitting at home, otherwise it will be very difficult to come back to riding.

^^^ great advice

Thank you for everyone's contribution. I have taken this week off and I'll have a braai and a few beers over the weekend and plan on starting next week with a few short MTB rides. I don't have anything planned in the next few months, so there is no immediate pressure. I'll just get going slowly.

Thank you to the community!

Change which rides you do. If it's not "fun" then don't go. Don't put pressure on a distance, time or waking up super early. Also try and focus on just riding with friends and family until you start liking your bike again.

Havent even been able to go get my bike from the LBS after a R200 repair.

Don't leave it there. You might pull in there to get a bill for storage, or it was sold to defray expenses.

T&C;s and small print is a thing.

Find a riding partner who is more keen than you are. Make commitments to ride with them and just pitch up. Even if the first hour is cold/uncomfortable/sore the bike will heal you. Also, there is nothing like a coffee and/or shower after a ride. But you have to ride first to get that feeling!

Is it just me but with this winter weather there is no motivation/urgency to ride/train????

you are not alone, have not entered any events, so motivation is all time low.

Nothing like a race entry and paid accommodation to get you motivated. I was also riding inconsistently and then entered for The Road to Desolation race in April. Training to survive...

Broken my toe twice in the last 9 weeks. Overload of work and this weather. I have literally not been this unfit in a decade or 2. Topped it off with flu last week.

But I was battling with motivation when I first broke the toe, really fighting to get out the door. Yesterday I went and swam. For the first time in many months I was excited to go and train..
