The weather layer on the trackpage seems to tell a different story ito the wind direction, temps along the route do not look super hot but I know one of the guys who pulled out said he overheated because of the the warm weather and tailwind not providing any cooling effect.

My bad. I had the calculations wrong.

Wish there was live action of the leaders approaching the finish. Will one try drop the other? Are they going to finish together, what’s the plan…

I hope it is a battle and not a truce like the one year with Benky & Thinus iirc.

Call me a loser but to race the whole Munga with a mate, push each other all the way and finish first together sounds like a dream outcome.

I get that and agree. Wasn't aware that they are friends and riding partners. There is also the small matter of the title and some prize money(will have to check but I think there is some this year). I was just thinking that the guys at the top end race it and not ride it.

But I guess if they are mates they would have agreed on this beforehand.

How much is the group entry, see they opened it up as a relay race?

Personally I think it is a great idea. Looking forward to ending the race on a fresh max 150km stage!

Munga entry R28000 - ive never heard a Munga participant complain about the facilities, the conditions, the lack of water, the quality or availability of the food, the wind in the Tankwa, etc etc etc

Absa Cape Epic entry - who can keep up? Every year multiple threads/pages of complaints about conditions, lack of water, food, the sun, the wind, mattress being too soft, mattress being too hard, etc etc…

I pay 28k with a smile. See you okes at the start line next year.

I know there is a hardcore munga cult following, (many come back every year) but I do think this will throw a cat among the pigeons at 40% of the entry fee.

I've not done the freedom and only 1 munga but i think they different animals. The freedom is much harder i think. No water points. No GPS allowed. More extreme.

It's a new GPS event not the Freedom Challenge. It's a bikepacking race that is similar in concept to something like Atlas or Silk Road. Even though I think this new race is a fantastic addition I don't think this type of race appeals to the vast majority of Munga riders. The typical Munga rider wants the water points and race villages and not the uncertainty of looking for a service station at 2am to refuel.
