Need a brakeset for a rebuild of my Scalpel 2000, skint.

Looking at this on Temu:

SPEEDONE MTB Hydraulic Disc Brake Set

R1407 + Customs and VAT, maybe R1700 all in

af071893-1ca5-4353-8f31-6a12230bb9b9.webp.3be99464ea3fd0a4d5e96631c27511c5.webp

CNC machined

Apparently uses Shimano pads / plumbing

What say ye???

As much as I love Hope brakes, you cant even get a used set for less that R4k

Even if the might be a bit rough at the edges ....

On Temu: I just did a test order for an electrical tool. The great thing is price includes shipping (no more having to make a plan with Aramex Global Shopper via Hong Kong), one just pays the VAT & Duty, Shipment took 10 days,  Tracking was good.  Impressed.

Tempting to "take one for the temu" .... sorry for the team.

Bit more than double the money gets you a VERY nice set from Evobikes !!

Shimano XT BR-M8100 Disc brake set.

Couple of options on the price brackets in between as well ....

As an 8100 user I wont save money for any of the cheaper options, not when looking at the current Evobikes special price.

Get yourself a set of Shimano MT200 brakes. roughly the same price as this. The MT200 is very reliable and durable

I would not trust something as important as brakes from Temu.

As mentioned by someone else, rather get MT200 brakes or a set of Tektro brakes. The prices would be similar

I've had dozens of items from them, half cycling related but not including components.  Two of the repeat items I received this week (baggies and a trail shirt) now have poorer quality fabric.

An independent UK standards authority investigation found that several insulated tools had fake safety certification and could not deliver what the label stated, just one example of failings found.

Ja I wouldn't employ any temu product in a critical function - it's great and cheap for small things that don't matter a lot - an el cheapo photography light for example, a protective case for a laptop etc --- brakes on my bike... no chance

Temu is the selling portal for Chinese goods from sellers and manufacturers, Like Aliexpress but they make it easy since shipping is included at a very reasonable price.

Some items are rebranded though, been wanting one of those Zoyi ZT-703S hand help dual channel scopes for a while, its on Temu as a XEAST, same thing.....

You certainly will get some rubbish there, but general rule of thumb with buying from China you get what you pay for

I like the CNC aspect of the calipers, dual piston ala Hope X4 of which I have had a few, Levers look machined rest of handle bar bit die cast, unlike Hope which are (were) all machined, which I really enjoyed the look of.

Issue for me is really what pads, what I can see for comments on Temu and AliX is they are Shimano compatible.

And here another from GMBN

Not bad review, thanks for posting, He raise valid points about spares, support etc but as I seem to have found Shimano 'compatible' and one would have to live without instructions or idiot guides.

He also raises good points about supporting known manufacturers but I've supported Hope almost from their get-go but right just can't afford them or even justify the expense, R11,995 for a single pot brakeset from local supplier, EISH

R9999 for tech4E4. But yes.

i know one of the faster guys on the local enduro circuit who has that E4 Aliexpress set linked above on his bike. With all due redpect to everyone who has commented here….if they work for him, we wont get close to their limit.
He is very impressed with them. He told me they use hope pads and many hope spares too.…although he said the stock pads were rubbish, so consider a pair of hope pads will cost you another 1-1.2k.
