these tickets are cash only so either bring the R50 along and pay when you get to town or buy the ticker at a train station on the Saturday. I wasted about 15min last year an escort to find an ATM to draw cash so I could pay cash. They didn't take cards

Yes, but is there a timetable anywhere as the when they will be running?

That seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle that no one has an answer for

Just get to the turn with the bunch… IMG_0219.png.f6563f4e07de7212d2724510f5d29e19.png🙈

And save some matches for the descent from Smits cos there's nowhere to hide in a bunch when there's a gale force tailwind.

Found that out the hard way a few years ago.

@Bro Derek, prasa website mate. Standard running times. Its just that for the day you can take your bike on the train

Trains don't usually run on a Sunday. There are no standard times.

It'll come out eventually. Just itching to get planning finalised.

So then No trains as the line doesn't usually run on a Sunday

That's the thing, CTCT proudly mention it, say the schedule is on the CTCT website but it isn't and you speak with such certainty in error

Anyway, I was hoping to take the train but the lack of or contradicting information is frustratingly pointless

Seems most routes are Monday to Friday.  Some Saturdays, with a note Saturday schedules are busy changing.

No option or information about Sunday schecules.

Sad, in the 80' and 90's we could just walk to the station any day of the week, even Sundays, and the next train was around quick enough.

Longest we waited was on a Saturday night, actually Sunday morning 1.00 .... next train was around 4.30 ....

Trip down memory lane ....

Ah ha, could have sworn it was running yesterday since that infernal siren gets used at every level crossing

Because last year is used the train based on a schedule published on the PRASA website

Only slightly relevant but a few years ago I did the Fun Ride with my daughter and at the expo they had train timetables etc that showed extra trains and we bought tickets only to find that at the Clermont station there was two other cyclists and one very dodgy person with a (stolen?) bicycle and no trains. The official we found knew nothing about extra trains but one "should" come at a time that more or less suited us later starters. We were just making plans to get a car when it came and it was a relatively easy trip and only slightly dodgy ride to the start.

But we agreed that we would not rely on it should again ever happen.

Which is no longer possible as such a thing doesn't exist

Saying 'Sorry chaps, I spoke in error' isn't that difficult

last year I pick up the train in Lakeside just before 5am. It matched the same scheduled time as the regular in week trains. There were at least 50 okes with their bikes already on board. The chaps who got on in Fish Hoek said there was a board up the week before the CTCT indicating trains running to and from town for the day. They couldn't buy tickets on the morning, some purchased the day before. We picked up another 100 or so along the way. It was quite a lekker buzz with all the nervous tension and what what.

Hopefully this year Prasa has a kiosk at the expo and we can buy tickets there nudge nudge wink wink Mr Bellairs

Can you go back on the route in reverse to go and wait for someone at Suikerbossie?

The only way is to finish early, take your car from the city centre and drive along the M4 Main Road or M5 southwards, cross the closed M3 at one of 2 bridges to the Constantia side and go over Constantia Neck into Hout Bay. Then try get as close as you can to Suikerbossie and walk the last bit to go cheer your late starting friends. We did it once and it was a traffic nightmare, not even thinking of the way out of Hout Bay afterwards. Unless you stay and party untill after the roads open late afternoon?
