I can strongly recommend taking a year off from racing it and just enjoying it for what it is, a social day out on your bike in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It honestly changed my entire perspective of the Tour.
I had also reached that stage when I was just worn out from chasing Sub 3's and getting stressed out about sitting in a big bunch with youngsters with dubious skill levels from spending too much time on Zwift and too little time rubbing bars in a bunch.
So I took a year off racing it and joined my stepfather on his very first tour at 61yrs old and seeing him enjoy it and interact with everyone on the road and at the water tables changed my entire perspective on what this ride is actually all about.

Try it, thank me later 😉

My Mtbike partner and I are doing this, this year, on Mtbikes.  We will actually ride in from home, fall back in our start group, ride the loop, hopefully grab a coffee/beer/coke/burger whatever along the way, and ride back home.  Should be a sweet 150kms.

New Experiences!!

Very true.

The Potch-train hardly posts on this thread, but the WA group is very active.

Chris is very right about the WA group. The chirps and chat is going on constantly. Most of us just want to get the work up to date and get down to the Argus. We can't wait!

NS. Please keep bad weather predictions to yourself 😉

its just another race for me.

no lustre. Its not special anylonger despite the full road closure. The whole vibe is just gone

about the 30th for me - remains such a cool day to be out.

super stoked for it as it's #2 with my son on the back of a tandem.  but according to strava have done just 131km on the bike since Jan1 so we will suffer and just have fun.

only got the actual tandem yesterday, but it looks fast!

totally new vibes and such a kiff day to be out on the bike.

#23 this year, total training will be the roll down to the start line from Tamboerskloof... hopefully 33 years of muscle memory can do the rest.

1E start group may get away from me a bit fast for my liking, so I'm most likely going to drop back to the alphabet soup to ride with a mate doing his first one with pastries en route. Been a while since I've done a social one.

Good luck everyone, may it be a fun day out - whether it's type 1 or type 2.

What are the rules these days about doing a second loop?

No real rules around it because as long as the road is closed and you don't involved with the race in group 8G you're good to go all the way around again.

Just wrap your number board in some foil .....

Can you go back on the route in reverse to go and wait for someone at Suikerbossie?

No

Not unless you feel like having a head on with everyone hauling ass down Llandudno with road closures

When is the best day and time to visit the expo for peak vibe?

I usually go on Friday morning, this year however I'm doing the 42km with my 10 year old boy and he's keen to go check out the expo. It's either after school on Friday at 3pm or Saturday morning.

I'm so happy I'm doing the short route with him this year, I haven't been this excited for the CTCT in years!
