Look I know I look like the idiot who insists on being right, but the fruit never hangs lower than this. I'll let you work this one out on your own.

too late. who cares if his run wasn't an 'official' parkrun? anyways, i'm off to do my parkrun 600m Ultra to the bathroom.

meh. this is all started with me joking in italics. In keeping with the theme of two tech companies suing each other it's clearly gone too far.

Okay, and so we live and learn .... 👍

Skipping past the first timed run in Scotland on 1040 ....

1. Fell Running

2. Mountain running

3. Trail running is a type of running that takes place on outdoor trails, often in mountainous terrain, and often includes significant ascents and descents.

It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Unlike road running and track running, it generally takes place on outdoor trails, often in mountainous terrain, and often includes significant ascents and descents.[1] It is difficult to definitively distinguish trail running from cross country running. In general, however, cross country running is a discipline governed by World Athletics, which is typically raced over shorter distances.

4. Parkrun (stylised as parkrun) is a collection of 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) events for runners, walkers and volunteers that take place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 countries across five continents.

Parkrun was founded by Paul Sinton-Hewitt on 2 October 2004 at Bushy Park in London, England. The event was originally called the Bushy Park Time Trial. It grew into a network of similar events called the UK Time Trials, before adopting the name Parkrun in 2008 and expanding into other countries. The first event outside the United Kingdom was launched in Zimbabwe in 2008,[1] followed by Denmark in 2009, South Africa and Australia in 2011 and the United States in 2012. Sinton-Hewitt was appointed CBE for his services to grassroots sport in 2014. By October 2018 over 5 million runners were registered worldwide, now over 10 million.

Curious. Found a mail in the inbox from Strava, addressing all developers of third party apps about the requirements of Garmin to for these apps to include attribution to Garmin by 1 November. It reads like a document intended to warn these app providers that the deadline is fixed and must be met.

Has Strava capitulated?

"Dear Developer,

We’re writing to inform you of a change to the Strava API Agreement. Garmin’s new API Brand Guidelines now require even downstream developers that do not connect directly with Garmin to include brand attribution when data is sourced from a Garmin device.

This Garmin requirement is reflected in a new Section 2.4 in our API Agreement (reproduced below).

Garmin Data Attribution: Activity data obtained through the Strava API may include data that requires attribution to Garmin. Therefore, if your application displays information derived from Garmin-sourced data, you must display attribution to Garmin in the form and manner required by Garmin’s brand guidelines.

Garmin’s API Brand Guidelines are scheduled to take effect on November 1, 2025. If you have questions regarding Garmin’s attribution requirements, the deadline, or your compliance with the requirements, we encourage you to reach out to connect-support@developer.garmin.com.

Best,

The Strava API Team"

Best,

The Strava API Team"

This whole thing is stupid beyond belief, who the flock do garmin think they are?

I use a polar sports watch and bike computer, polar flow software and Strava free version, the satellites that my devices use to track my activities are owned by various governments/ states (see below)…. In other words flock all to do with garmin.

During the summer months I take part in a running / cycling time trail series which uses Strava to update the results and the various leaderboards.

Just imagine now if every sports wearable manufacturer decides to pull a garmin and demand that 3rd party API,s must display some sort of attribution to the brand of wearable that was used.

This is what happens when a brand (garmin in this case) has market dominance in terms of devices being used.

Garmin sheepoeple you created this monster

😇
