Mercer bikes but they are hard tails as far as I know. I think there is a guy in CT called Black Composites who hand builds carbon full suss bikes.

ja, i speak under correction but don't think Leon really makes bikes to order. more into paddling (but has built bikes for 'fun' for himself and teammates - they are the business!)

So what bikes are made in South Africa ?

I know MOMSEN is local, but apparently they now only make carbon fibre full suspension bikes ...

Which other full suspension MTB bikes are locally manufactured ?

PS - seems I am using the wrong search criteria as I cant find threads on this ...

Inspired by the mountain.

Built by a little yellow fellow in China.

Then imported back here to be sold as "local"

Its not about where its made, where its designed is important.......

Nike is American but made in China  :whistling:

My last pair of Nike where made in vietnam. I have had a few pairs of Nike before and this pair didn't last like the others. China made Nike seems better than Vietnam Nike. Not sure where my salomons are made but they are bullet proof.

Did they learn nothing from the war?

Most frames/bikes are made in Taiwan, no problem with that, I have personally been and seen the Trek factory in Waterloo where they make the top end frames. A few other brands do the same, they have a select model range made in the USA/Italy etc and the balance of the "bread and butter" models made in Taiwan/China.

From what I have been told a few times (not just relating to cycling brands) is that a certain percentage of the assembly needs to be completed in the country to be labeled as "made in xxxxxx".

Meaning that a frame may have its main components molded in Taiwan and then shipped as a broken down frame to the USA to be glued together, so they can say "Made in the USA" - but more often than not, if you read the fine print - it goes along the lines of;  "Made in the USA using domestic and foreign parts"

Remember seeing the pics of the alloy pieces (of the Zula) that were shipped in from the East to be welded at Morewood in PMB, the raw alloy frame parts where hydroformed etc there and then welded and painted here. Possibly some cutting was done, not sure....
