Why people still cycle past Kayamandi amazes me.

Agree 100% and I used to stay across the road on a farm.

I would avoid that area at all costs!

I am glad this guy is healing from his ordeal 💪

Perhaps a cup of Stan's tyre sealant in your water bottle is not such a bad idea ....

On 21/06 around 10:20 I was attacked by about 6 - 7 knife-wielding youngsters (none of them older than 10) about 2km from Kyamandi direction Stellenbosch. They were hiding in the ditch to the left in the thick grass patch. Managed to get away unscathed thanks to help from a couple in a white Toyota Cross who charged the youngsters with the vehicle.

Will definitely advise to avoid the area completely

I'm not sure how many times people still need to hear this but STAY AWAY FROM KAYAMANDI !!!

It's a known hotspot and your chances of losing your bike or life are getting higher each week. Until something gets done by the authorities (don't hold your breath) then find somewhere else to ride your bike.

They're even targeting motorcyclists at those traffic lights now for their backpacks and cell phones.

Sorry to hear about your experience, are you able to share location? You state 2km from Kayamandi?

Think Songo needs to change their homepage. Definitely not a safe environment and people will think twice to donate to their cause. Sad that the police does absolutely nothing!

Songo.info | Improve Lives of Township Children | Uplift Kayamandi

Songo has humble beginnings: from a dream of providing a safe space for children to play on bikes, it has evolved into an Education support and Sport programme focussed on creating a long-term positive impact on the children of Kayamandi, Stellenbosch.

On the R304. I had just passed the yellow speed camera. Would estimate around 500m from the zebra crossing direction Stellenbosch

To my knowledge & understanding from most of the reports I've seen, happy to be corrected, Kayamandi is only the landmark.

Kayamandi is the mainly black township where songo.info is situated.

Directly across the road is the coloured community of Cloetesville where the attackers come from & flee towards.

This is very much organised crime.

There are a couple Stellenbosch WA groups related to cycling, hot spots and stolen bikes.

Every so often the cops raid a house (each time a different one) with 10 to 30 stolen bikes.  Some stolen in Stellenbosch, many traced back to these muggings.

It really leaves a bitter taste that we support Sauser's project, and then get mugged by "his neighbours".  The criminals have eroded any goodwill the average cyclist might have had for the rest of this area .... sad reality.

Teachable moment for us up in GP.

Why do people ride past here, is the route, or the only route? Because there seem to be a few ways to avoid this extremely dangerous place.
