  1. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/annika-langvad-announces-her-return-to-full-time-racing-in-2025.html Another EPIC title coming spaz way...
  2. I have Spank Oozy pedals and also have never had a slip. My soles are so worn in now they almost clip into the pins 😂 Alright. I’ll have a look at the Spaz and the 510’s when the time (bonus😂) comes. Thanks guys.
  3. Can't see him going back to spaz. Can't see koretzky being dropped either... Hope its not Scott while Nino is around. Can't see anyone else able to match CFR on paper?
  4. One Spaz maybe if you don't splurge out on spec.
  5. Slackline is fncking sweet though! And built properly will be fun and a beast on those trails. Niiice. EDIT TO ADD: You're in Europe then.... dont just focus on a new Enduro, you have the world of choice, so need need for that Saffa Spaz mentality. haha..
  6. Am I the only armgat that look at these beautiful bikes and see the eye watering price and thinking what I can buy with that amount of money. Yesterday we had a meeting between Stellenbosch and Summerset, had some time so we popped into Specialized and BMW. For the price of a mid tier Spaz you had quite a few new bikes to choose from and for the top tier Spaz you could nearly buy a top tier BMW 1000rr that looks like a GP bike. How do bicycle manufacturers justify those prices and don't come with R&D as there's plenty that goes into the bikes as well.
  7. Hi, I am looking getting a gravel bike and have been researching the interwebs for the last month or so. There seems to be very little choice available in South Africa wrt Gravel bikes. Also, most international sites (in fact ALL international sites I have looked at!) do not seem to ship full bikes, so sourcing from oversees also do not seem like an option. Let me also say, I am looking for a Gravel bike and not a cyclocross bike as I want the slightly more relaxed geometry a gravel bike offers, and I definitely want Hydraulic discs not mechanical or anything cantilever... I am looking to spend around R30k. In terms of locally, the only ones I have been able to find are: - Cannondale Slate (too expensive and I don't think its worth paying as much for only 30mm of travel) - Cannondale CaadX and SuperX (really more Cyclocross bikes than gravel bikes I think, also most of the affordable models have mechanical discs, and I'm not a fan of mechanical disks) - Scott Speedster 10 Gravel (looks like a nice option, comes with Hydro disk brakes for a really nice price) - Spaz Diverge and Seqoia (expensive for what you get, SA also seems a bit limited in terms of the specific models we get. Most of the affordable models also come with mechanical discs - meh) - Trek Crockett 5 (also mechanical disks...) - GT Grade various models (looks pretty good value, but usually out of stock everywhere!) So my question, what gravel bikes does the Bikehub community own and where did you get it from?
  8. As well as the Swiss cheese Spaz use in their rims. I will put it on record that they are seemingly incapable of issuing proper wheels on their bikes. Another reason to rather just buy a frame set and build your own.
  9. I think he needs an enduro style setup as others have said. Glad you mentioned Intense... loving my Tracer 279. I'd say if buying secondhand off the Hub, the Spaz Enduro has fnckall value now, so that's a good go-to. I was nervous selling mine as it was the closest to a DH bike and also the benchmark... but the 279 is way nicer (except in baby head high speed rocks, but niche problem) everywhere. It pedals miles better uphill (even with DHX2) and going down is miles more fun and first ride out without even suspension set up, faster everywhere. Confidence wise on the steep stuff it was just so much better. I've done Morzine with DH Bike (Intense M16C), Enduro and Tracer. I would have loved a DH bike again, but didn't really feel like I was missing out. Tracer will be expensive, so suggest an Enduro and whilst it's a dog uphills, you do get used to it quickly. Stumpy Evo seems the "cool kid" recommendation at the moment, and it's excellent, but for your riding in that area, just get the Enduro, up the fitness and you'll love it way more.
  10. you know ... if spaz made a steel frame like that ... I may just be tempted to also step over into the dark side
  11. Erm, except it doesn't actually say THAT. A 2.35 magic mary is bigger than a 2.5 Maxxis WT. So it depends on the tyre's measurements. Unfortunately, one cannot rely on the width rating to determine how big it is, as each company has a different measurement method. 2.6 Spaz is about the same as a 2.5 WT, and about the same as a Mary 2.35 2.6 Maxxis is only ever so slightly wider than a 2.35 Mary... The answer, therefore, is "it depends"
  12. as much as I like to take a dig at spaz, their contact point products are exceptional .... and rather well priced too.
  13. I got really good service from Spaz on a helmet replacement. If I was you I will go for spaz again as POC good be more of an effort to replace
  14. I posted the below in the "...Casette" thread, but it applies more to this thread. I ride a 2017 Camber Comp. Is today "Spaz let's sell rear hubs day" ? "I just got a call from LBS . I booked it in for a bit of play on the rear wheel, and sommer a full-house service. Sir, they say, your free-hub is in it's chops. We need to replace it. R1600 for the free-hub, new skewer and the service. Bike has around 1500 km on the odo... <Cough, cough, splutter, splutter, weezes, wipes tears from eyes and goes and makes some extra strong coffee...> [i forget to mention, the techie also threw in the fact that the chain has passed 0.75%...leave it I said..." [extra edit] - My HT, which has in the vicinity of about 6500 - 7500 kays on the clock is still running fine with the hub it came with when I bought it back in 2013... Methinks it's a spaz thing
  15. Yes, its amazing what stories the industry comes up with to explain rubbish design or manufacturing quality. Bearings are now consumables like brake pads and chain lube... As I said above, my Funn hub which is a Hope knock off, is still as new after a similar period of riding to the Spaz.
  16. Speedsleeve Ranger from Cogent Industries - best dropper compatible saddle bag out there. https://www.cogentindustries.co.za/product/speedsleev-ranger/ I have tried the Spaz mountain bandit (similar to the Wolftooth one), it works but can only store 1 co2 canister and 1 tube lever in addition to the tyre - and I have lost a tube on the rough stuff. In the Speedsleev I fit 2 co2 canisters, tube, tyre boots, spare masterlink, 2 tyre levers (in one compartment, tubeless repair kit (in other tyre lever compartment), and a multi-tool with chain tool - and it takes up the same real estate as a mountain bandit, but you can't lose anything because it is all enclosed.
  17. Spaz also have something similar. https://www.specialized.com/za/en/air-tool-blast-tubeless-tyre-setter/p/131406?color=220671-131406
  18. Definitely not, unless I know they fit properly. Case in point. Needed new skoene. Had a pair of 5-10 frreriders in 12 that fit perfectly. Options: Freerider: no stock of 12 anywhere Freerider pro: smaller cut than old (pre Adidas) freerider therefore no bueno Ion: size 12 doesn't fit, had to wait 3 weeks for a test pair Spaz: size 12 2FO is juuuust too small with the innersole in. Without the innersole, perfect fit. If there had been a size 12 freerider (non pro) in stock locally, I'd have bought it online. Otherwise, with my strange foot (high instep and wide forefoot) there's no chance I am buying online.
  19. We have a trashing Spaz thread here somewhere. Here we only trash Canyon. Know the rules man.
  20. Well.... i have a Spaz Roubaix and Argon E116 and I would never ever contemplate trying to do a Vroomie #TDF2016special....BUT if for some reason i lost my survival instinct and had to do it, it would be on the Spaz Roubaix.... Hopefully a few more people will be a little less quick to sit on their top tubes
  21. Is it shorter than the Spaz Power saddle?
  22. I keep seeing these humming beasts out on the trail. Latest guy was riding through Kirstenbosch on a Spaz Kenevo. I like that bike - its like my Enduro only much heavier.
  23. Slaughter and Butcher 27.5x2.8" plus tyres on a 40mm internal width rim, 18psi rear, 15psi front. I have never felt grip like it before. Just insane, feels like riding on rails! And this is on a hardtail. I was completely put off plus tyres when I had them on my Spaz Stumpy, but that was 3.0 tyres with control casing on 29mm rims. It's crazy how much of a difference propperly wide rims, strong sidewalls, and aggressive tread makes.
  24. The learning curve on this MTB activity of ours never stops teaching you things, both technical and skills wise. I recently delved into hubs and hub servicing. It started when I noticed play in the rather budget rear hub on my Enduro's rear wheel. Play developed and a bearing or two felt worn. I eventually took it to Spaz in case there was a warranty issue as the bike only turned 1 today. No broken parts were found and a bearing was replaced and hub cleaned and greased. The shop say that rear hub bearing wear is common and some people go through them every two months. What?!?! The bike hasn't been ridden nearly as much as my previous bike as I now have two bikes - the hard tail with a Funn rear hub has covered similar km by now and the hub is silky smooth. I have a front hub that still runs without play although the bearings are slightly noisy. The matching rear hub is now doing service on its third bike and the bearings have never been changed after plenty of abuse over the last 5 years. What is your experience of hub bearing wear? Is a year or 2 months reasonable bearing life or do some hubs just wear them worse than others...
  25. Go onto Maxxis, Specialized, Onza, Schwalbe sites. All the weights and info is on their sites. Then just Google for reviews on the ones you find interesting. Start with: - Spaz Fast Trak or Renegades - Maxxis Ikons, Ardent Race, Aspen or Rekon Race - Onza Svelt - Schwalbe Racing Ralph
