As seen at our local PnP

We have the same at our local PnP hypermarket but the selection is not as nice as that. Last week was 2 types of apples and some pears. It varies but I have never seen it as good as yours.

I lived in Secunda for 2 years as a youngster when my dad worked for Sasol, don't remember much going on there. The upside is we very quickly discovered I have asthma - pollution is probably the top attraction in town.

it would appear nothing has changed

Last time I was there was also a few years back and the mouth was closed. Not sure if it is open again. We used to go there and sodwana every year to fish during holidays when we were at school. July was sodwana and st lucia was the next one. Think it was September/October time. Miss this days. Still used to be able to drive on the beach. My toppie had the bakkie kitted out for fishing and beach driving.

we went every school holiday. October was prime fishing but we still went during the other months.

The mouth got closed during some heavy weather many years ago (probably around 20) and was never really opened properly after that. I know they tried many times.

Used to love those holidays.

The mouth has been opened to it's original opening, which is a connection to the uMfolozi River.

The fishing will never be like back then for all the known reasons.

We, just like you fellows, spent every holiday there in winter coming down from the Transvaal. It was glorious fishing holidays on the estuary and from the shore.

Sept/Oct was the Grunter Bonanza, I took 7th spot in 1989/90, memory is foggy.

Old man always stayed at the Travel Lodge, which was right next to Dolphin Superette. I now live just up the drag and still fish the waters every so often. Will post pictures on my next visit.

Edit: I was in grade 2 when I first experienced a salmon run on my rod and having a fight to land which was a 4kg fish just in front of the bridge...no fishing were allowed beyond the bridge after dark.

I still have the fishing rod I bought from Dolphin. lovely little rod that bends when the sardine bait is on the end, but give a damned good fight.
