The mouth has been opened to it's original opening, which is a connection to the uMfolozi River.

The fishing will never be like back then for all the known reasons.

We, just like you fellows, spent every holiday there in winter coming down from the Transvaal. It was glorious fishing holidays on the estuary and from the shore.

Sept/Oct was the Grunter Bonanza, I took 7th spot in 1989/90, memory is foggy.

Old man always stayed at the Travel Lodge, which was right next to Dolphin Superette. I now live just up the drag and still fish the waters every so often. Will post pictures on my next visit.

Edit: I was in grade 2 when I first experienced a salmon run on my rod and having a fight to land which was a 4kg fish just in front of the bridge...no fishing were allowed beyond the bridge after dark.

I still have the fishing rod I bought from Dolphin. lovely little rod that bends when the sardine bait is on the end, but give a damned good fight.

I hate using a grinder, always feel unsafe. My wife's cousin cut his knee open with one when he los control of it. O and a gash to the neck and cheek.

My dad was using a huge-ass grinder, cutting above his head/shoulders. Thing ripped out of his hands and the blade ran from his neck down to his shoulders. The angle at which the blade hit him made the damage much less severe.

Also, the guy at my dad's work place was cutting metal tubing on the ground, and as he cut through it, it pinched the blade. The blade shattered and cut off his main artery in his leg. He bled out in less than 5 min.

Scary AF.

Worker of my dad was using one of those big ass belt sanders. Belt caught on something and somehow got pulled out of his hand and somehow caught his other hand. Ripped a 5mm deep square of skin off his hand, starting from the middle of his palm to the top of his hand. Scary stuff.
