So, after a long and expensive fight, I have to take our boy to be put down this morning after a visit to the vets yesterday. Spent the night on the couch with him, lots of tears, especially from my wife, for whom he has been a constant companion for ten years. Worst of it is that the vets are in lockdown, so they won’t let me in the door and will take him from me outside. At least he knows everyone at the practice and is loved there (he’s that kind of dog) so won’t be scared going in. Heartbroken.

Sorry bro :(

That hits me right in the big feels. Its my worst nightmare.

I know its hard but try to remember all of the good times and how loved your dog was.

Jeez man, that is a rough one. I have a feeling my old girl is finally on the her last walk. Hadn't even occurred to me that we couldn't be with her if it comes to it. Sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you. I had to put my first rottie to sleep 2 years ago to the day. He had cancer in his lymph nodes, and his breathing became more of a gurgling sound. Driving him to the vet, i was pissing my eyes out. Holding him while he was injected was worse, seeing his body go limp and his breathing stop. Finally got back to my bakkie and i collapsed, crying uncontrollably. The drive home to face the remaining rottie was torture, it started raining and i took Xena for a run in the rain, talking to her and saying Rambo is running in doggie heaven, with all the other doggos.

About 4 months later i got a new male, from one of the more reputable breeders in CT.

Xena is still with me, albeit at 9,5 yo and carrying cancer in her front leg. She is not in pain, however a tumor has formed on her joint where the cancer is present. Quintus ran over her last year and she fractured the leg, xrays revealed the bone was weakened because of said cancer.

She still has lots of energy and able to do most things she always did. Every morning i get up and am thankful that she is still alive, but i dont think she will see out 2020. When she is unable to climb on my couch and her appetite goes, ill have to make that drive again...

I live alone with my dogs. They are my world. Losing one is absolute torture. I wish all of you doggie parents much love.

Thanks guys. Vets let me in so I was able to hold him. Heartbroken but he’s in a better place

Sorry to hear, that's never an easy thing to do and especially when one can't be there to say goodbye when they go in. [emoji24]

My utmost sympathy. Having gone through a similar fight with my Dani two years ago, I know how you feel.

One of the worst days of someone's life.

My innige simpatie. Sterkte.
