Seeing how Rassie operates I imagine whoever is going to take over from him has long been decided. My bet is on Jacques Nienaber, they already have a long history of working together and I think Rassie would want as much continuity as possible.

Not sure on that one for head coach - but I can see him being involved.

white-pdivvy-heyneke-toetie-rassie  time for another coach of colour?

I think since Rassie is staying involved with SA rugby, we might see a different sort of structure (and none of our current Super rugby coaches are close to what we need)

I played college rugby under him. Let me just say he's not the coach for the rainbow nation.

Would you care to elaborate as to why you believe that's the case?

Do you see a pattern?

The games this year involving the Bokke have been close, with stupid errors being part of the problem. The exception was the RC match in Argentina - they just seemed out of it. If the Bokke can learn from all these mistakes, there’s no reason why they can’t win the RWC and keep the 12 year cycle going.

I’m more optimistic now than before - the team seems to have a vision/direction and style of play that can go all the way. Rather make the mistakes now and learn from them than do it in the RWC.

1995 was pure hope. Our first RWC, and at home.

That first game under Jake White (think it in Bloem), was Os du Randt’s “out of retirement” comeback. They won convincingly that day but also won games they could easily have lost and lost games from a winning position too. In 2007 RWC, they had a tough/bruising route to the final, while fate played out nicely on the other side of the draw... that pop pass from France against the ABs that was supposedly forward.

Win or lose to the ABs in the group stage means we only see them again in the final, just like the Poms in 2007. Only 7 games in the RWC, but they only need to win games 2-7 to lift the trophy.

Let’s hope I feel the same this time next year... 5 days after the Bokke lift the William Webb Ellis trophy again.

Time to reflect on comments made a year ago...

about a year ago we lost to England, in England, by a single point.

The talking point was a shoulder charge by owen farrell with the clock up in front of the posts.

We've seen shoulder charges like that go automatic yellow all month, but he got away with it then.

enter the Lightning Bug...with a bit of space.

couldn't even get the shoulder close!

what a moment from a special player.

Given that he's now Director of Rugby for all SA, I think he'll have groomed someone to take over from him who he knows will have the same vision as him. The top - down control that he;ll have will be very, very interesting to see, effectively mirroring the current NZ approach to rugby. A single coaching & playing style and direction, applied throughout SA Rugby.

Very, very interesting times!!

Rassie have remarked recently how the provincial coaches have responded to his vision for the World Cip and that was integral to how they could succeed at the World Cup as standards, norms, and responsibility to the Springbok were upheld.

I think this has everything to do with Johann Erasmus’s leadership style and relationship building ability ????????❤️

World rugby awards, Team, coach and player of the year.

TOKYO - South Africa flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit was named World Rugby Player of the Year on Sunday as the World Cup-winning Springboks swept the main awards.

Rassie Erasmus won coach of the year and South Africa also took the team award at a glittering ceremony in Tokyo, a day after they lifted the Webb Ellis Cup for the third time.
