Moka was my next purchase after the French Press. I still prefer my Aeropress though.

With a side by side comparison using the same beans, you seem to get a rounder more flavour filled extraction from an Aeropress IMHO. Both do pretty much the same thing.

The Moka boils water in the bottom chamber and forces it through the basket in the middle and collects the extracted coffee in the top.

So how many of you have a MOKA pot?

I have never used one and am keen to try it out. Any suggestions? I am not even sure how they work exactly.

Im a big fan of my mocha pots, I have 5 Bialetti's

They are very easy to use and I get quite a bit of satisfaction out of the process.

Lots of great detailed videos on youtube about the use of them.

Definitely very different flavour to the aeropress, I just like the oldschool feel of a mocha pot.

I use both interchangeably at times though.

Easy to use, and great thing is you can pop it on a gas stove as well.  Know my brother used his baby Moka on Sani Pass.  At a cost perspective it is worth getting one (for me it was it anyway) With SA and load shedding a good pot of Coffee can go a long way

The coffee I make is mostly black or Espresso so skipped the milk parts as they are  a pain to clean ;-)

Went Jura Micro 9 and just use a frother for the odd cappuccino,

Also bean to cup is cheaper per cup than Pods but capital outlay more , ave 3 cups a day take about a year to start being more cost effective.

but the smell and sound of beans grinding is priceless ....

I just clicked the link....

We have been looking for a machine for work for a while and this looks like a viable option based on their rental rates. I have left a message for a sales rep to contact me so we will see what happens.

Have you or are you dealing with them and if so how's their service?

I have a collection, of different shapes and sizes, using only a Moka pot on my camp trips. We joke saying that we will be without or running out of many necessities, but never (with)out of coffee, never!! We love a strong fix, and depending place and mood or whatever, we top our brew up with some ideal milk - yumyum!

They are the bees knees; simple and easy to use, with a super brew to top it off!

I have been using my baby Bialetti on all my hiking and adventure biking trips. They age well and will most possibly outlive you.

It will also give you lots of joy in experimenting getting the brew to near perfection. You might become addicted to the smell and taste of a Moka brew.

Just got back from the Northern Cape and Southern Namibia. Don't go there without an Aeropress and hand grinder is my advice.

Heard from Foodserve as I landed. The Linea Mini has arrived. We will make the final payment and should have it by Wednesday. Happy days

NESPRESSO is ridiculously overpriced and your hooked into their flavours.

Selling my NESPRESSO machine if anyone is keen?

Looking at Jura machines and will use Deluxe coffee beans. I use to spend about 500 bucks a month on NESPRESSO pods. Using your own grinder & coffee machine will save you loads.

I changed over our company's coffee to an all-in-one from Aquaspresso. We've had 3 machines problems in close to a year, with next morning service, and their selection of coffee is quite good. All in all, a satisfying, and economical experience :)

Hoping to get some good pointers/advice from the gurus and aficionados;

I am looking at replacing my Nespresso (Maestria) that does home-duty. I'm running a little to rich on the black fuel, making sense in replacing the current with a "bean to cup" model. Trying to see what is good value for about R10 - 14k (or am I bluffing myself?). Also got to consider 15bar vs 19bar pump and quality of grinder blade.

Years ago I had some experience with Jura and Sprada machines, - being Swiss, they worked like an ETA 2824 movement. I also like the Expobar, though they are espresso machines only (to my knowledge), and quite expensive I believe.

A few other products that comes to mind is Severin, Saeco, Bosch.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

I bought the Bosch VeroBar Aroma Pro 300 close to 4 years ago, and apart from 2 services at Bosch in Midrand, together with machine-indicated cleaning/descaling programmes, the machine has worked flawlessly. Fairly adjustable across grinder and temp/volume/strength, easy to use, and just keeps going on!

Only recently, the coffee dispensed into 2 cups side-by-side has different volume, so one of the delivery pipes is getting clogged. I'll have to have a look one of these days, and follow the pipes back to the brewer unit and see what's blocking it.

Would get my vote for value-for-money bean to cup machine, without a doubt! Maybe not the wow-factor of a Jura, but a solid machine :)
