PhilipV Posted May 2, 2019 Share If I have the heat turned up it sprays all over the place. I have 2 brands, one is a bialetti and the other is a cheapie and both do the same. So I use hot water and then heat(gas) on lowest. Works for me.Maak die deksel toe. barrykm, Grebel and Long Wheel Base

Trance Dance Posted May 2, 2019 Share Anyone else used the Bialetti brikka pot? An interesting alternative for espresso.
barrykm Posted May 2, 2019 Share Just to clarify.... when you use the Moka pot, do you keep full heat right up until the brew stops coming out the spout? What sort of extraction time are you aiming for? I never use full heat. Put hot water, nearly boiled, into the Moka pot reservoir and place it on low/medium-low, and then be patient. Do something else whilst keeping eyes and ears on the pot. Remove from heat once it starts making bubbling noises. Done within 5 minutes.
gerriemtb Posted May 2, 2019 Share Thanks. Is the aeropress suitable for making more than 1 cup at a time? Especially when friends are visiting? Not really. It's quite intensive especially if you have a manual grinder. Wouldn't use for more than 2 people.https://capecoffeebeans.co.za/blogs/how-to-make-great-coffee/17849668-an-aeropress-recipe-for-two This recipe from CCB works well for 2 cups. you don't really need all the weighing and measuring as the Aeropress is very forgiving. But I won't bother to try and make for more than 2 people. As madbradd said, it can be quite intensive.

Nothing wrong with second hand and you can find some good bargains if you're patient. I did make sure that I got a machine that was regularly serviced. With regards to Aquapresso, my friend bought a 2nd hand Jura from them and the machine has been giving issues since he got it. The right spout just will not run even after a service and a clean. Maybe it was just bad luck? Long Wheel Base

As I don't know that much about these machines I want to do as much research as possible. Jura seems to be a very popular one but I think you also pay extra for the name? I read one the aquaspresso site that their 2nd hand units come with a 1 year guarantee. Did your friend have issues with them and the so called warranty? It never had many reviews and it scored well overall but some of them were worrying. One review was 5 stars but he stated this was his 2nd one and he was happy that it got replaced(so he was reviewing takealot and not the machine). A nice looking machine though. Works perfectly and produces a surprisingly good coffee.I did have an issue with the drainage valve about 2 months back but it was a R300 fix and all was good again. The guy who did the repair was an independent dude and we chatted about various machines when I went to pick it up.He was saying that below R30k in Jura you are just paying extra for the name. In the lower end machines they are all much of a muchness, just to make sure the brand has spares available and you are good to go. R5k to R7k you can get a F7, F50 or a C7. I had a F50 and upgraded to the C7. I really like the coffee that it makes. My friend's unit did come with the 1 year guarantee. They did come out a couple times to service it but the problem persists. His is a F50 if I recall correctly. Long Wheel Base
