AM tyres... what you running?

Had the double Spez Eliminator loaded on my hoops last Friday and gave them a spin in Tokai later that day. 2.6 Grid front / 2.6 Black D on the back on a 29r.

Initial feelings are:

- A fast rolling combo.

- Very uniform profile and no a hint of a death gap.

- The 2.6 is quite wide, didn't measure for actual size though.

- Actually look less burly than the DHF and at first I was a bit apprehensive at first about the grip on offer up front.

- Didn't need to worry, there is plenty of grip around.

- Black D casing out back does (or seems to be) heavier than my previous E13 but haven't checked the numbers.

- Black D is stiff... as a casing.

That's it for now, will go test them again tomorrow and see if I can get a better feel.

Slapped a 29er 2.5" WT Assegai 3C Maxterra EXO+ on the front of the Jeffsy this evening and moved the 2.4"WT DHR2 to the rear ........... can't wait to try this out.

The Maxterra feels nice and sticky, and when you slam the bike down the tyre carcass feels to have a nice rebound ... last tyre I had on the front that felt like this was the DHF in DH casing and was also a grippy compound.

Rolling around the street it does not really feel any slower than the DHR/DHR combo I was running before, but we will see how it fairs after a ride or two.

Tyres are mounted to a set of DT rims with 30mm internal

Ibex 2.4 front and Ibex 2.25 rear on the Ros9...

Kooked out at black hill this afternoon... Someone has been digging there. Would love to contribute.

Getting to know my flat pedals again after lockdown...... I wore the shin guards and needed them once or twice!

Any pics? I have been wondering about that spot. Last time I drove past there it was overgrown and not a line in sight.

Eish.. we were too busy kooking out to take pictures.

The very top flatter bit isn't dug and the big canyon at the top id DED, but the stuff starting at the canyon landing is all mint.

Hours of fun to be had. The gutter they have built running from the new intersection to the mall on the Kommetjie side is also a half pipe!

On my 27.5 Trance with 30mm ID rims, I've got a 2.6 Eliminator on the front. It measures about 2.5. Pretty happy with it. Got a 2.3 Aggressor on the rear... grips pretty well, but feels slow. Any suggestions for something that rolls a bit faster? Previous bike had Nobby Nics which rolled fast but didn't grip.

Eliminator could have taken product of the year last year for me

Minion SS or Shwalbe rock razor, only if you're confident to lean hard in corners

I've got Elim's front and back they are really great. Happy I swapped out the DHF and chucked the E13 semi slick as that even with the tough casing was poor and caused the first puncture / side wall cut I've had in 4+years. I would love to get back to a Slaughter on the back but Spez are still not making them for 29'rs in anything more than 2.3 (but you can get a 27.5 in 2.6).

I was also impressed with the Eliminator up front (only had it on for 2 rides before I decided to propperly kill my DHF before using it). I just picked up a Black Diamond for the back as well that will be going on soon.

I have heard a few people say they like it front and back. Keen to see how it stacks up against my usual Agressor/DHF combo.

I paid R899 for the Grid version (29x2.6), and R1099 for the Black Diamond version (29x2.6).

It sad that we are paying so much money for bloody tyres :(

For everything really... Never mind new. I've seen all sorts old of things on the classifieds selling for way more than the owner would have paid for them.

But ja.... Tires are crazy. My new modus operandi is to buy whatever is on special at the time and just ride them to death, regardless of how they feel. The 5% 'performance' is 150% negated by my poor skills and 500% not worth paying twice as much.

As things get more and more expensive I find it increasingly more difficult to justify cycling as a hobby.

Running a DHR II 2.6 upfront and a DFR 2.5 at the rear on 29" rims with 27.2 internal width.

DHR has slights less dead space than DHF in my experience.

Lots of my riding is done on very slippery hardpack with small loose gravel. I've managed to slide the front wheel on one occasion where I felt the tyre failed me, on two other occasions it was at slow speed and tyre placing was plain wrong (root and rut respectively).  Each time the trails was particularly dried-out. On a wetter trail I've taken the first corner above fast and low with success. On inspection of the tracks afterwards you could see the slide and grip clearly.

I have both an Agressor 2.5 and DHR Ii 2.3 waiting in the wings. Both for the rear. Looking for an Assegai 2.5 at a decent price point.

I've had success buying old stock, usually from shops converting to specialist dealerships resulting certain brands losing display space and the customer base changing to less radical riding and more weight obsession.
