How to build a MonsterCross Bike 101

I'm also looking for a 700c Gravel fork that can take a decent size tire for a monster cross build.

The best local option is nearly 6k at everydaycyclesupply.

I was hoping for something a bit cheaper as the whole bike cost less than that to collect......

Try Kean Bikes. They are on instagram as KeanBikes and I know he does carbon forks of all sizes for around 3k... Edited by Grease_Monkey

It the price size is right, I will be interested.

Size is XL. If you're a L it might also work, depends on your build/setup preferences, etc.

XL will be too big.

I’m on the upper end of a M or the lower end of a L.

So she ain't all that pretty at the moment, but it is a working bike, need a quick link for the chain and then I can go for a test ridepost-140742-0-43017900-1613148785_thumb.jpg

After a couple of rides I will strip it down, maybe replace the crank with a proper 2x crank and have a nice paint job done and get a decent saddle and bar tape

Sitting around thinking about this frame hanging in the garage ... off to chat to my painter mate!

Maybe that design but red rather than orange and with white logo ....b732fc962e8a37b12d309d71b00de828.jpgff35658f127f468867c7a5c2b6f266fe.jpg90f0025923e1d048a0919b35a83478a9.jpg

OK painter will start his magic tomorrow, my mate is working on the vinyl art work... Less MonsterCross and more 'RoadPlus' (description thanks to a fellow hubber)

Damn I'm impatient when I'm committed and ready to go!

'Just wait a bit before starting to apply decals and building it' .... seriously dude?

But OK let's see how long I can hold out [emoji851]

Sadly the 29x1.75 slicks I've fitted to the wheels are too wide (fine in the fork but not the rear), I do have some 700x38's I'll fit tomorrow. They should be good!13734dbff8e528efc3910836675c219d.jpge3bd1c8643d6748deb00089856fba93d.jpg26aff72184e7564b81cb39784384c83e.jpg

Not really a MonsterCross anymore I guess, I'll use it on the road only....

Still 'Big Bertha' but a lot prettier?ce017ef18ae8508f2a5ea7aedd74d056.jpgfcbe32d26a5f4f51835c0c283ac6c9cd.jpg

Guess I know where to go when I want to get my one painted, that looks awesome ????????

Looks lekker.

How much did it cost to prep and paint?

I've got a frame I'm ready to convert to MonsterCross.

I stripped all the parts off myself, a spray painter mate did it for me. Charged me R1400

  • 4 weeks later...

Not to derail that Parlee thread, saw this paint scheme on there and had an idea to do that to my Jamis MonsterCross ... anyway as you guys know me by now idea to reality generally doesn't take long [emoji41]

Stripped this morning and delivered to my painter Big Thys ... hopefully get it back towards the end of next week.

Big Thys the painter 'let it dry some more in the sun, maybe build tomorrow'

SERIOUSLY DUDE!

I'm torn between getting the frame back as soon as possible and waiting till it's actually ready to build ... I want to see what it looks like but then can't wait to start!

I have a question. I have a set of 105 Hydraulic brake levers, whithout the hydraulic calipers.

Can I mate them with older shimano XT MTB calipers? looks like physically it can, but will it work?

I cant see why it would not work. As long as the hoses and olives are compatible there shouldnt be a problem

#AgentOrange ready to ride ... it originally had a Java carbon fork but I had this steel fork and decided it'd be more fitting. Will see how it feels else I'll have the carbon one painted orange and fit it.

The fork is 'very' orange might add some logos or something to it sometime
