A quick question on TSS

I see TP has and option to show hrTSS and TSS

I assume the hrTSS is calculated via the hear rate numbers, where does the TSS figure come from? Power?

As far as i can tell it comes from your power meter.

The other night I did a ride on my trainer. I couldn't get my HR monitor to synch but I still got a TSS score.

Tuesday and this morning I did spinning classes and got HR tss scores there. No power meters in the spinning class

Gonna try do a session on the trainer now with HR monitor and see. Will report back.

Ok cool thanks, my hrTSS is much higher than my TSS just wondering why

Yeah mine too from what I can tell. The highest/best score is the correct one tho. First rule of metrics.

You guys are training a lot.

I got seriously unfit in August/September after training diligently throughout the winter on the indoor trainer

I was doing around 350 TSS per week for May, June and July.

Then I almost started getting my mojo back end of August but took more time of the bike.

End of September I really had to start training again (2 months away from DC) and found my fitness really took a big dive.

FTP down 10% and lacking endurance.

Week 1  (15/07 - 21/07):  7h50 / TSS 461
Week 2  (22/07):  5h36  / TSS 356
Week 3  (29/07):  2h10  / TSS 98
Week 4  (05/08):  0h00  / TSS 0
Week 5  (12/08):  0h00  / TSS 0
Week 6  (19/08):  0h55  / TSS 29
Week 7  (26/08):  3h48  / TSS 319 (Hard 2h43 race this week)
Week 8  (02/09):  6h17  / TSS 371
Week 9  (09/09):  1h00  / TSS 79
Week 10 (16/09):  0h00  / TSS 0
Week 11 (23/09):  8h19  / TSS 502
Week 12 (30/09):  10h48 / TSS 803
Week 13 (07/09):  5h38  / TSS 487
Week 14 (14/09):  3h57  / TSS 307 (recovering a bit from fatigue this week).
Current week (Thursday):  4h43  / TSS 370

I am now back to where I was end of July, I think

Edit: Word choice not the best, replaced with dive

TSS is based on Power, hrTSS is based on Heart Rate, rTSS is based on running pace (etc. Training Peaks has a number of different TSS measures). TSS should be the most accurate and consistent but does require yout FTP setting to be correct.

That usually happens when your Heart Rate and/or Power zones are not set correctly. If you have them set up correctly the numbers should be pretty similar (although hrTSS will be a bit more variable because HR at a specific power can drift or be higher or lower depending on how fresh or fatigued you are).

I like the way Intervals.icu presents the info.

Started using power meter data in May.

was it higher or lower than it should have been?

AH!! Ok. My ftp on TP was waaaaay higher than it should be. Makes sense now. The higher your ftp is the harder you can work therefore the less TSS for a given effort. Sorry this stuff is all new to me.

Started commuting and my TSS is increasing. Rode in the last four days and I'm sitting on 688 for the week thus far..Taking a break tomorrow and maybe Saturday as well.

Sounds like a decent commute.

My guess: 1h20 one way?
