Chinese Carbon Thread

My EMS experience was quite a bit different.. Ordered wheels at the end of October. Got built within two weeks and shipped around the 15th November with EMS. Shipping was quick. Tracking showed it got to CapeMail Hub before the end of November. And this is where the hold up started.. A week later I get a SARS slip in the mail that I have to send proof of the purchase price etc before CapeMail will release it from customs. Did that as quick as possible. Middle December get message from my nearest Post Office to collect. I paid $550 for the wheels on Aliexpress(Around R8500 back then I think). Slapped with another R900 taxes at the Post Office that I had to pay upfront at the counter before I could get my wheels.

Still worth it though!

I Have a couple of SAPO's managers on email.. dont ask.. I spammed them once for the rear shock that sat in customs for 3 weeks. the shock was at my local SAPO within the next 2 days.

Perhaps I was lucky? Its a roll of the dice at the moment and Im very glad I got everything in good time.

Well then it wasn't an EC90 was it.

Buying counterfeit is criminal so no sympathy from me.

Only saw this post now. I honestly had no idea that the ec90 was a knockoff Easton product. (Never knew The Easton ones even existed). Just tried my luck on aliexpress, as they looked a nice shape with shallow drop. The specific bars have many good reviews.

But lesson learned. I was just lucky it did not completely snap. I just realized they had more flex after my ride????

Cracked on the bottom of the top flat part. Nowhere near a clamp. I just dumped them in a bin and bought proper bars????????

Only positive was that I realized how comfortable bars with a shallow drop are.

I've tried rims/wheels from the better know manufacturers without issue (and will probably continue to), but I've never been brave enough to try handlebars partially due to having seen how poor some "knockoffs" are relative to originals.

Considering relative pricing I'd rather spend a bit more on authentic Ritchey, Easton, 3T etc.

For sure. I will not buy cheap/fake carbon handlebars again. Risk is too high. If price is an issue, I would rather buy aluminium Rapide bars. Great shape, just a bit heavy. I bought a set after the chinese bar broke. Great value and bomb proof.

How can they do good wheels and **** bars, surely bars are easier to manufacture ?

Wheels are pretty uniform (its a circle). Bars are a complex shape with various profiles. I'd go with bars are harder to design, and harder to manufacture, but the mold is smaller and there is less material which is why they're cheaper than rims.

Apparently it's illegal to sell stuff that's fake/Chinese version with branding. It's also against bikehubs policy.

Matt (Admin) said I can't sell it on the hub. So I have this brand new 30.9mm carbon seatpost that's 400mm in lengte that weighs 200grams just laying around. I would have sold it for R450

I'm located in Randburg for no reason at all if you wanted to know.

Are you perhaps trying to bring back comments in the adverts?

Can't you just peel off the graphics to make it legit?

Because the people making the **** bars are not the people who make the good wheels or good bars.

They are criminals who make rubbish and stick a label on it so that they can sell it as having been made by the good guys.

Josh, you either need to remove the branding or destroy this post. It is an ILLEGAL product.

You're now openly trying to sidestep our T&Cs after being warned against fake items. In line with our policies your Bike Hub account will now be suspended.

Since my chinese ec90 bars cracked I have not bought anything again

Only saw this post now. I honestly had no idea that the ec90 was a knockoff Easton product.

Pull the one with bells on but in any event, ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

Not only did you undermine Easton by buying a fake, but you aggravated your criminal action by claiming that an Easton product failed.

I see CSC also manufacture bars but they have no reviews... their wheels have good reviews though... I checked CWC and Evobikes and carbon bars are around R4k. I'm pretty sure I saw cheaper ones in store in the past though... now that I decided to upgrade for carbon wheels I wouldn't mind carbon bars ????

Wow. You may relax.

As you quoted, I said my chinese ec90 bars cracked. Nowhere on the bars is the name Easton, nor did I Say an Easton product failed. The intend of my post was to warn hubbers that the ec90 product from aliexpress cracked.
