Why are the roadies so worried about quality , It's only a 1.2km cycle to the local coffee shop, nothing will happen to the bike not even a chinarello.

Aren't your bikes just for posing anyway?

It's not about your bike, or how you ride your bike, it's how you stand by your bike that counts

Not sure why the OPs comments are taken as gospel.

OP mentioned in original post that the LBS indicated way back that he was informed that it was not original. This is supported by the "lawyers" response ( very little backup provided). But i will respect the lawyers position on this not to be tried by the media.

The numbers do not add up on the invoice values. LBS says he only paid R37 500. Lets assume R15k (low?) for wheels, 4k for headet and handle bars and saddle column, leaves a frame of R18 k. Dont know what a frame costs here but basic pricing is about $5 000. (R50 k plus) Please correct me if i am wrong as i have never shopped for a bike like this.

LBS indicated OP wanted sprayed frame, to my mind i would not want to touch the frame on a R91 k bike. OP not commented on this. Dont know if there were costs involved.

No i do not know why the OP invoice says Dogma, or if the frame was painted on request or not, or who said what, but there is obviously a lot of info not available to us as this would take a court case, which seems to be the way this is going.

OP's replies below are the reason I, on a personal level, accept his version as near to gospel as dammit. On the other hand, the LBS has been absent, save for a poorly written, inconsistent, legalese response today.

Just to reiterate it isn’t just the frame that is fake, the following components on the bike, in addition to the frame, are fake:

Wheels – the supplied wheels are an inferior copy that had been branded with DT Swiss stickers.

Saddle – the saddle is far too heavy, and not the right shape, to be a Selle Italia.

Handlebar/Stem – the carbon stem/handlebar combo was not a real Most Talon bar.

The saddle and bar/stem are in fact fake too.

The letter from their attorney Vaughan Hattingh Attorneys to me, stated, they sold me a "grey import Pinarello bicycle" (their italics). This after the fact I presented proof that it was fake. I hope for Mr Hattingh's sake he is paid by the hour and not on his success rate.

I didn't ask for the bike to sprayed i requested the 'black on black' colour i hope that clears it up.

The longer this saga goes on, the deeper Cycle Psychos dig themselves into trouble.

If and when this case goes to court, us hubbers demand that it is streamed to thehub ^_^

This is almost as good as the who shot JR mystery back in the 80's

Was import duty of 15% (not to mention VAT) paid when the real Dogma was brought in form Australia......?

VAT is not applicable if he paid VAT in Aus.

Off Course he is going to pay 10%ATV when he imports the bike from Australia.

not really correct....but anyway. SARS want their VAT, if he paid Aussie VAT he should have claimed it back at the airport upon leaving the country.

A much less sever crime than selling fake merchandise......

I am the lucky one to get the authentic Pinarello. (Andrew's old Pinarello) When Andrew's new (Fake) bike arrived it was without the bottle cages. We then fitted the old cages to the Fake bike and afterwards bought new cages from Cycle Science for my genuine Pinarello. I suppose i should have those checked to see if they are real or also fake? I thought the water tasted funny:) No bike shop in Boksburg would dare sell us fake bikes. And in Boksburg we get discount to:)

Ahhhh ok.

So Andie had an old genuine Pina you inherited, which he replaced with a fake Pina without bottle cages at Psycho Cycles, and then replaced that with a genuine (some say "grey" but I don't) Pina down under?

Got it!

I mentioned in a post yesterday, that I was offered a parallel import S Works frame. The price was R 20 000. No mention of fake, but parallel import.

Cycle Science is clearly not above board, and I will no longer buy from them.

We never get an invoice from them, as they add up the items on a calculator and charge credit card. Never thought much of it till now.

It's probably a thing called VAT. Now wouldn't the receiver like to read this thread.

Agreed Brogue on your points, something smells like dog poo. It is a pity that we are not getting a response from what used to be my LBS, until they failed to give me a straight answer on modifying a hub from skewer to through axle. But so far it seems they are sticking to their guns that it was a Chinarello and never marketed as anything else. Way too many absent "facts" including a dodgy looking Advocate Roux letter.
