to me its as simple as, if you want to make a successful living as a pro cyclist you have to dope..l

I just finished reading "The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France" by Tyler Hamilton, and it does seem to not be as prevalent anymore as in the past? Yes, you will get the odd rider doing it, but even the timings of certain 'standard' stretches in certain races are more or less back to what it was before the widespread (esp team) doping.

Reading this book gave me personally a lot more insight into what happened behind the scenes, highly recommend!

would be interesting to compare the trace found in this chaps body to the levels found in Impey's samples. The whole argument for inadvertent use was the substance concentration in the sample and the disciplinary panel applyin their minds to allow a reasonable argument to be made. That doesn't happen in cycling much.

I would have liked to hear the supplement people explain that one away. If it was not labeled they can get sued big time.

Problem is in manufacturing back at the factory. Often they will use the same production line for different products. If the mixing tanks, and plumbing is not properly flushed then carry over will occur. The production plant doesn;t give a hoot about trace chemicals from the previous product so its fairly common to get carry over.

The risk to the end user just becomes a lottery. Will the guy that bought a tub or XYZ from ACME supplements have the tub with contaminated product and will he use it close to a competition and what are he chance of that person being tested. if the risk is small the pharma companies don;t give a hoot. They not going to spend an extra day flushing out the plant because the previousproduct contained ingredients on a banned list. real patients are more valuable than healthy sports persons

It seems like an unlikely drug to contaminate a supplement since unlike steroids its not the kind of substance that would ever be added to a supplement. The article linked does not say how this was proven or argued in the case of the Canadian swimmer - I'd be interested to know how this argument was made. Also, in that case apparently the Canadian swimming body supported a lenient sentence - can't see that happing in Daryl's case. Would love to be wrong.

Can be true for steroids, not for pharmaceuticals that can be masking agents...

Although the drug in question is listed as a masking agent, that was an incidental use, its primary use was anti-gout. and to prolong antibiotics (as I understand it)

Sure but my point was this isn't going to be added to the gymbunnies cocktail and thereby accidentally end up in Daryl's recovery drink.

contaminated supplements took down our Springbok team - chilliboy and bjorn basson were the two unlucky ones who had to pee in the cup. The supplier seems to have got away ok with it, maybe some more serious stuff behind the scenes

Yesterday, I spoke to three former pros about Daryl. All three were adamant: Daryl is clean. All three related how Daryl turned down offers to "charge" with PEDs. He even turned down recreational drugs if the boys went out partying.

I think they call this the Omerta

no dude - the former SA pros have spoken, so it must be true

Yes, and they are all clean, so clean that they will sue you if you even suggest otherwise. Ps: Tumbles, when you say Daryl turned down recreational drugs from the boys. It reads like you mean he turned it down from the pro's you spoke too, which must be untrue.
