Harley Davidson Road Hogs

To the "Marshalls" that escorted a bunch of Harley Davidson road hogs through the Cradle at 09h50 yesterday sunday 10 Aug, round the traffic circle close to the Lion & Rhino park. 6 road cycling friends were "pushed" to the side of the road, to allow these ever mighty road hogs to drive through unhindered. There were about 20 "motor cyclists" going through. Would these marshalls kindly explain, what was the purpose of this gesture. Are these guys so fat or their bikes so wide, that they need to resort to these bully tactics? The front most rider was riding 0,5m outside the yellow line, that demarcates the cycling lane through the cradle. We managed to speak to the tail marshall, and he did not take responsibility for his colleagues action. :cursing:

I too have never understood what makes these harley owners so special that the rules of the road do not apply.

Have seem on many occasion, them blocking intersections for the group to proceed through.

Really irritating.

I'm very suprised about this, we have often been passed by the Harley group, in fact they passed us on Saturday near the Caves. No issues with them before, ever, and I always ride just outside the yellow line.

Maybe it was just one of the marshalls having a bad day. One things for sure, if they try that crap with me I will tell them where to get off.

What is the problem here ? We learn this from our government ! If they can escort some fat MP through our street then why can't we do it ? And pushing other road users of the road is also part of the course .

Was the MC called HD Road Hogs or are you just calling them Road Hogs and then in the same breath saying that all HD riders are Road Hogs ?

Agreed, I see them almost every weekend and have actually commented on the Hub by their good behavior. Must have been an isolated incident.

Unless you speak Harley you will never understand

By the way maybe them forcing their way thru traffic intersections is a kin to cyclists going thru red lights at traffic intersections ??? >> just saying !

ahhh yes, ye olde "two wrongs make a right" argument.

Closely followed by "unless you are 100% perfect you cant have a valid point"

soon we will be blaming apartheid...

Have always found them well behaved and friendly, the lead marshal does often ride ahead to warn cyclists to move over but it has never been aggressive. Anyway I appreciate the heads up before the group roars in out of nowhere.

I couldn't agree more - my incident was with the Pretoria Chapter of the HOG down in Dullstroom over the weekend. The guy with a Marshal jacket on came the wrong way down the street in front of the Dullstroom Inn and proceeded to push me and my wife wide of them - on MTB's? What threat were we to them and their hundreds of tassel bedecked old people.

WTF?

I am a motorcyclist and these guys even blocked me when i was riding my motorbike in the cradle over the weekend. They pushed me aside at a Stop Street and blocked the oncoming traffic in a turn.

Who says they have the rights to block traffic and disobey the rules.

I don't get Harley riders in the first place - but hey everyone to their own. But they don't have the right to behave the way they do.

Regards

I have never stopped at one of these "harley intersection blocks". If the light is green for me, I will go, unless a traffic officer instructs other wise.

Just because the chop on the bike is dressed like one of those leather "cops" in the

, does not mean I have to do what they tell me, no matter how bright his dayglo bib is! Edited by RocknRolla
