What race did he do? I did the Voet last weekend - really does live up to the tagline of "toughest race with the warmest heart". I remember it as a buckelist type race in the 90s when my dad did a bit of road running, so stoked it is still around. 360 odd starters and country feel. Tried to hold back and have some gas for the final stretch on the tar but probably just didn't have miles in the legs. finished in 4:32 - this race has a 6hr cut-off! photog (she was from oakpics) got some impressive shots https://www.facebook.com/media/set?vanity=voetvanafrika&set=a.1584153536363410 Edited September 23, 2025 by Shebeen DJuice, IceCreamMan, Rowl and 1 other 4

Day of days 🙏🏻 I'm not one with the ability to give good race reports but here it goes. After two failed attempts at the illusive 100miler distance, I decided to bring it back home. So on boxing day last year I bought myself a "to me from me" Christmas gift, a Karkloof 100miler entry. I booked accommodation for my family on route at Bushwillow Carvan Park - word of recommendation, the place and facilities were brilliant. Definitely worth going there. As it turned out, it was one of the checkpoints and start of the 30mile event too. Anyways, roll on Friday 8pm and off we went. I purposely crossed the line last as not to get caught up in the hype and go out to fast. I ran my race very much within myself and got through the night relatively unscathed. I reached the halfway mark in 10hr 31min and only then did I hear I had moved up into 4th place. By the time we got to the 2nd last CP (128km) , I had progressed to 3rd and was 19min 25sec behind 2nd. I was so amazed that I of all people had been given this opportunity. Coming into the last cp my family told me to push as the gap was only 10min 😱 I couldn't believe it, was this really happening me. I decided to take my shot and I upped the pace. I was playing with fire as I could blow up but I also didn't want to live with regrets and what if's. Unfortunately I never got a snife of 2nd place and at the last water point, 8km from the end, I decided to back off and "bring it home" so to speak. How surprised was I when I made the left hairpin turn to see 2nd place about 300m ahead on the "climb". I took a gel, composed myself and power hiked the "climb". As soon as the terrain leveled out I ran 6min pace (153km into the race) and blitz pass him and crossed the line in 20hr53min with a 10min negative split. Sub24hr Silver buckle objective was achieved ✅️ PhilipV, milky4130, ChrisF and 8 others 10 1

dave303e Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Sounds like a perfectly executed race to me. Well done you had obviously done the prep and your pacing was on point... Your first 100 Miler finish is usually a special event, but this is very very special. ScottCM 1
dave303e Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 and just to show you how changeable the weather can be there, here are some pics from last year(2024) Karkloof. Zama7 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 Any recomendations for a podiatrist in pretoria that makes running inners?
IceCreamMan Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 Cape Town marathon cancelled due to wind. Organisers have to put safety first. mikkelz, babse and ChrisF 3
shaper Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 Lots of frustration here at the start, windy overnight, but nothing thos morning. Everyone doing their own thing now running seapoint promenade 🤣 Not going to reflect well in getting world marathon majors status.... mikkelz and babse 1 1

I have been on the athlete end of a cancelled event due to weather more than one and understand the frustration and anger. Just ***.
