This will be my 2nd year I’m missing Comrades. Ever since I disconnected DStv, I don’t have access to watch - just as well: sitting on the couch, doing nothing the whole day, doesn’t go down well with the wife.

Only one medal - last year. I'll be back at some stage because it HAS to be easier than that sufferfest I battled through...

'Luckily' we're travelling comrades weekend so I'll try avoid the fomo tv watching...

2010 & 2017 and I think 3 will be enough for me.

2012/2013 Back to Back... 2014 Took a year off to give Epic a bash.... 2015/2016.... forced year off

2 Ups and 2 Downs

2018 will be my 5th... nice round number

Also not sure how many more ill do, so many other cool sporting events in SA to get involved in..

I did 5 run/walk km yesterday and stopped immediately when the pain kicked in but I'm back to limping today. I've decided to accept that I won't be running Comrades this year. Mainly for my mental health. I'm losing my mind trying to calculate how I can heal the knee, stay fit and still run on the 10th of June, and if so, what should my new time be, etc.

So I figure the only way to approach this is to focus on the knee and getting it permanently better as the ultimate goal. If it happens to be okay to run on the morning 0f 10 June then I'll do that but that's no longer the main intention or even part of the plan, just a secondary bonus if it happens.

Running injuries are like the five stages of grief and I think I've just transitioned from depression to acceptance :)

No man that really sucks, I hope by some chance you are still able to run on the 10th

Thanks, guys. I'm actually cool about it now that I've made a decision to prioritise the knee. It was the stress of racing the Comrades countdown clock that was driving me nuts. At least this way, if Comrades does somehow happen then it will be a nice surprise rather than an anxious experience of wondering whether or not I can make it to the start line.

Sorry to hear that! These knee issues can be a handful and dont seem to go away.

My ITB seems to be improving (Well doesnt hurt with 10km - doing a 30km this weekend). Have been doing plenty stretches and strength training for the glutes, hamstrings and quads. Will also go for some acupuncture...

Goodluck and hopefully we see you at the start line. Rather be rested and under-trained than start injured and over-trained,

In the same boat, took me two months to get to the acceptance stage. During that time I just did more damage to my injury. Comrades must come and go now, every time I see a post I want to start crying.

Eish Barry... really sorry to hear.

It might be a good idea to take a step back though and assess things, but I've no doubt you'll be on that start line on June 10. Take it easy, rest when required and get it fixed. You're very strong, and even without much (or any) training between now and then you're good for at BR. Rest is not the end of the world, even if it is frustrating.

Good luck though, look forward to you getting back on your feet

There is always Karkloof 100 in Oct, the 50miler is pretty much same distance as Comrades... #Justsaying
