Discovery Health - Vitality & Team Vitality plus everything else you need to know

Recommended Posts

Been going to the same M&B on Thursday mornings to grab my Serious Cuppacino, no issue. This morning, the laaitie gives me a bill and says the reward only works on the Regular Cappucino. I call BS, show him the Ts &Cs on the reward where it clearly states the Serious size is also covered. But he insists the code doesn't work, so I tell him to then bring me a regular size.

So, has anybody else experienced this? Or is this laaitie taking a fat chance?

Just got a Serious Latte from M&B via Vitality. Perhaps your store is unsure?

On Friday last week I sent my mother one of my rewards to use at Mugg & Bean and, like Rookie, it also wouldn't accept the code, she just paid for the coffee.

Nothing Discovery related, but rather a difficult cashier at Koo-waai. On Wednesday last week I used my surprise reward, and wanted to pay for an additional breakfast for the wife. So I ordered one item on their "Rewards" list and another that I wanted. The cashier said I could only choose from the "Rewards" list. After spending a few minutes trying to convince her that I was "paying" for the second breakfast, so I was able to order whatever I wanted, I eventually just ordered two "smashed avo on toast" and walked away.

Vitality is volkak, tried all weekend to link a garmin device for the gf and it just says error...

Then I look this morning and it logged sundays run and gave me points but didn't give me anything for saturdays run at all. In all honesty am thinking of moving away from discovery, they are just so full of sh!t.

Reading above they are now accusing people of falsley claiming points.

Previously have had the issue where you run 100 miles and get same points as for a 42km marathon. They then said they don't want to give points for excessively long races, but then they give extra points for doing an ironman>

For which the reply was they want to reward the people for training so much- Like we didn't train for 100 mile trail runs. Common logic would state that they have no effing clue and sit in the tower trying to cover themselves and not lose out too much to the people who actually are fit, whilst praying on the couch slobs and failing new years resolutionists each year...

are you part of discovery for vitality or for the medical aid ?

If its for vitality then you will always find problems with any rewards scheme out there.

No points for me either.

6 hours yesterday and 1 hour today.

App shows last sync was yesterday

Website says they are aware of the issue and are "working" on it. They suggest a link / delink

If you have a Garmin - whatever you do - DO NOT de-link and re-link.  There is (was?) an issue where the de-link happens in your side, but nit in their back-end system.  It took me nearly three weeks, endless stress, time and phone-calls before we eventually managed to get enough frustration on social media for them to allocate a devices expert to de-link it and delete it in their back-end system so that the whole thing could be relinked.

According to Garmin - both sets of developers and technical experts are working on a "permanent" solution.

Took me 8 days to get the delink/relink sorted. Don’t do it.

as soon as you enter the rarefied atmosphere you describe, Vitality and their algorithms fall flat.

as part of the endurance thingy, i could care less about a free weekly coffee - it's the flight discounts i'm after for workouts i'm doing anyway

Mine just pulled through, after some time waiting. Very peculiar how it only affects some people, where as others have little to no issues.

Both Wife and my points did not pull till late last night - both Garmin devices.

Oh yeah took me week to link wife's new Garmin watch. DO NOT de-link. lol

We already made this year totals, now only the weekly goals. I love my free coffee.

Hi all. Looking for recommendations for a vitality friendly heart rate monitor for my wife. Her polar FT 60 gave up the ghost after some years of service. We both had our share of troubles with signal quality of the polar chest belts and units. Must preferably be something not so big and masculine looking. (She is quite small and dainty! ❤️) Looks like Garmin and vitality are having compatibility issues?

Depends on Vitality's mood, really. A few weeks ago, I had trouble with my workouts using a Tomtom Spark/Runner2, and my wife's Garmin loaded fine.

The Tomtom's are not too bulky, and can use the wrist HR OR a bluetooth strap (I use my Tickr, when I'm wearing it anyway, wrist HR for running). But Tomtom's wearable side might be shutting down, so who knows how long you might still get support or new straps (already difficult).

My wife has a Garmin 225, it is really a bit bulky for her. Maybe something like the Vivofit HR?

Most of the replies will probably recommend Garmin, and with good reason, they have good products and good after sales support.

The Garmin-Vitality issues are usually resolved quickly.

Your budget does determine allot though.

Under R1500: Wahoo Ticker with existing Smartphone, run Polar Beat App

Up ro R3500: One of the Garmin Forerunners, take your pick

Up to R5000: Garmin Vivoactive 3

Up to R10k: Garmin Fenix 5s

What sort of exercise does she do?

I swear by Wahoo Tickr belts: https://sport.takealot.com/sport-wahoo-fitness-tickr-ant-bluetooth-heartrate-belt/PLID41019883

Pair it to your Garmin, pair it to your Phone, pair it to your Trainer, pair it to the Gym bike, it just works. If she still needs a device as well, that's another story.

Thanks, mainly indoor cycling (spinning), some mountain biking over weekends and a little bit of jogging.
