The city pays as per service level agreement.

Not 100% correct...there is a triparty agreement...Upto a while ago the Western Cape Government had to pay if the actual collected revenue is under the projected figures! I know of some efforts to have this amended...whether those efforts were successful, I do not know!

Did Chappies yesterday. Managed to go up at an average of 22km/h but only managed to go down at an average of 32km/h because these gail force winds are no joke at all...

I am also praying that whoever it is who has been starting these fires on Devils Peak and Signal Hill and now over Scarborough leave the CTCT route alone because I really am not keen on another 47km "Argus"...

But to answer your qu, As far I know 'Dale, it's open.

Last Wed afternoon I was told on top by an official that should turn back and head home via Constantia Nek or I may descend into Noordhoek but at my own risk due to the heavy winds, not any rock falls or anything .

Yes I rode up there late yesterday afternoon and they're actively busy with the extra catch fencing.

What is still a worry is the amount and size of stone in the current catcn fencing!!

Eish , lucky the currently installed netting is working but looks overwhelmed

Cleaning of catch netting, one job nobody envies...

what a coincidence that this happens just as the crowds of cycle tourists arrive for all the tours............will they take down the fences and put back the signs as soon as its just us locals riding again ?

The fences will probably remain, but I imagine that the signs will go back up again on Monday 7th March.

Pffft

Such a cynical human....

Resource management and incentives.

Timing is crucial. We don'y pay to use the road, why should they care about us local cyclists? From a business perspective, this timing makes sense. I am sure there are incentives for having it secured and safely re-opened in time for the masses, the biggest single day cycle event in the world as well as tying it in with a huge influx of European tourists.

So much whinging involved here. It shows the rot of entitlement is still very much prevalent amongst a demographic that often cries about the self same thing.

As much as it stinks, Chappies is not ours. We are not entitled to its use and when those in charge of its safety, maintenance and upkeep decide to open/close it, that is their choice.

As a business owner you wouldn't spend 5 million rand on water fountains and loungers so that the beggars sleeping outside could use them free of charge......... Not until someone paid you to anyway...

(I am not saying I wholeheartedly agree with my own sentiments as I ride over Chappies 3 or 4 times a week. Rather pointing out the sense... perhaps. I dunno. It has been a long day)

No Man, I wasn't being serious either.

But there are a few folk who genuinely feel disgruntled about the system.

Chappies was a windless treat this morning. Cape Town showing off big time!

Good news. Please keep it this way. I'm entitled to a wind- and fire free aurgist (lol)
