Anti-Doping Rule Violation - Out-of-competition test
July 24, 2018

Cycling South Africa reports that Carmen Buchacher has been found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation of Article 2.1 and Article 2.2 of the SAIDS Anti-Doping Rules after an out-of-competition test conducted on 3 March 2018 confirmed the presence of ESAs, including Recombinant EPOs and Analogues.

SAIDS has imposed a period of ineligibility of 2 years, commencing on 3 March 2018 until and including 2nd March 2020. Ms Buchacher is therefore suspended and prohibited from competing and administering in the sport of Cycling as well as in any other sport in South Africa and Internationally during this time.

So sad on so many levels.

What does strike me is that this may have happened under the nose of arguably SA's best coach - not that I think he would stake his growing reputation on any one client (so nothing inferred there just to be clear) - but if it can happen there then it really begs the question what aspirant cyclists are getting up to for a bit of pocket money and some fleeting fame

Said coach is a good friend of mine. I know for a fact that him and this athlete had parted ways at the beginning of March.

Looks like they tested in the final hard week before taper for Epic where one would be glowing, kudos to the testers.

Yup and right when the riders numbers would be peaking.

I always have to think about the partners though, would they know about the doping. Surely if train together should do...

For the guys that get thrown together last minute, prob not. But If all of a sudden Arron was dropping me on the flats i would call WADA.

You should call WADA on him in any case, and flag more of his rides.
