Not really opening up this whole can of worms again (I am sure there is a thread though if you want to shoot the lights out), but I do recall at the time there were some serious inconsistencies with dates and stories etc. It really didn't look good.

Kev's a nice guy though who did a stupid thing - he's been through the mill since then and you can only sympathize a little, so it's good to see him back in a better place these days - but in my books he should certainly not be racing. It's just not on... and illegal. Unless the events aren't sanctioned, I'm not too clued up on the specifics?

gotcha. there is a big thread.

I was a bit confused as he has had quite a few health issues over the years it seems. they are listed in this post.

What I still don't know is what he's exactly accused of(or if anyone does), it looks like not contesting it has cost him a hefty sentence.

Either way, he shouldn't really be racing now - but if it's a non sanctioned race, then he can but obviously expect the abuse.

No, you guess wrong.

You got a snarky response to a deflective statement, own it. If you need to put that down somebody else "being a little sensitive", well thats on you too.

My original point, quite simply was, that these things come and go all the time... and there is so much of it we simply can't maintain interest and outrage at it all. It's the same with road safety, it's the same with licenses, CSA, bike lanes etc... they're flavor of the week, then something else comes along. It wasn't some attack or anything, just a harmless bit of sentiment - I'm as against doping as the next guy, and it pisses me off enormously that the system is so broken (not just in the SA), but it is what it is.

If you want to get offended, as it appears you are, then go ahead and knock yourself out  :P

We cannot expect a governing body to sanction dopers. It needs to be economically and a CLD to dope. At the moment its not.

Jail time at some point needs to become the norm... sport is professional, peoples livelihoods and careers are on the line and the bottom line is it illegal and fraud.

Lock them up and suddenly there will be a lot less interest in the shortcuts and possibly quite a few people looking into alternative career paths

As he never contested it, the nitty gritty of what was done never came out...

I know what you mean.

Not even nearly offended, I don't believe in getting offended, but I do get irritated sometimes. I will take your advice and go knock one out, it sometimes helps.

At least DG made no excuses and served his time before he started racing again.

Was thinking the same thing, the oke received a lot of hate here on the hub when he tested positive. But yes, no soppy stories or excuses, plead guilty, laid low, served out his sentence.

Or you could visit your nearest doper... let the thread title be your guide

I just started Hubbing when his story broke, and I remember listening to some radio interview with him. Blesbok Radio or something as irrelevant to cycling.....

Anyhow, I remember him saying that he was going to do some much for cycling, help SAIDS with getting to the bottom of doping, etc etc.

Did any of this ever happen? Or even better, does somebody still have the SoundCloud of that interview?

Agreed, but in the same breath it wasn't too lekker seeing him at joBerg2c shortly after his ban and high up in the results. I guess that's why we have the life ban options...

Might feel a bit more like the battle is being won when we don't have life time dopers on Epic podiums still though as a result of loopholes

There were anomalies detected in his biological passport. He had the opportunity to defend, or explain why this could be possible. He chose not to, hence the ban.

One of the major lessons / penalties for getting caught is the ‘no man’s land’ isolation from the privileges of racing.

This sadly just dents his reputational value even further.

And others like him.

Pay the penalty Cupcake

His lack of conscience and embarrassment clearly indicates that he does not care about a reputation.

If i recall correctly he got charged with some stuff he was given during an operation, but he had already retired so chose not to contest it. I had a certain level of sympathy for that.

according to this article - At the beginning of 2016 it was reported that the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) had charged Evans with doping after finding irregularities in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP); a “longitudinal value of blood parameters”.

It resulted in a ban until March 3 next year.

So what's the truth, was he on EPO with DG and just got caught out by the ABP?

was he lying here when he said:

https://www.iol.co.za/the-star/evans-i-did-not-know-1419424

For someone who 'conveniently' announced his retirement just prior to a doping ban becoming public knowledge, he seems to be training and racing quite a bit.

And show me any doper who admitted to it prior to being caught................really.

If you can cheat by taking a short cut in a race, then you can dope.

By allowing a person who is serving a doping sanction to ride, and not a small one, they are showing the clean riders a middle finger too.

I used to be very militant about dopers and people who have doping histories. As I have become older, I have relaxed this stance somewhat... but honestly, riding races while under sanction is a big FU to everybody.

but K2C and Dr.Evil stage "race" aren't races they're "races" i.e. non sanctioned hence the licensed pro's don't participate. Kevin can't get a racing license till March 2019 but he can ride his bike anywhere he wants and in any fun ride that wants him there.
