What else have we been up to? Here's another thing made out of some scraps. There's no such thing as bad wood if you work around it.

It started with some old chipboard, and industrial quality pine where the 3m boards were quite warped and twisted. But there are usually straight bits in-between.

There's some used meranti cover strip in there too. The top is saligna, a whole pile that I got at the Rare Woods sale for R2000. I think I've used up all the vaguely decent bits already though  .

that is just simply AMAZING!

Thanks Rocket-Boy and Slowbee!

Skott5, it's a 1963 1200, bought new by my Dad on 19 February 1963 for R1395, if I recall, from Lindsay-Sakers in Braamfontein. He had the car re-upholstered and resprayed in about 1987, together with a reconditioned engine. (Actually, I have to think, the car was just over 20 years old, so it wasn't as indesctructable as it's made out to be.)

When he died in 1998, my Mom took it over as her Sunday church car. But, in her 90s, she got into the "touch parking" habit, which doesn't go down well in Joburg. At all.

I brought her and the car down here about 5 years ago. I must admit, I doubt I've done even 3000 km in that time though. Probably take here out once a month for an hour or two, but she still fires straight away (converted to 12V) after you pump the accelerator exactly four times, then hold your foot halfway down.

I've still got all the original paperwork. In those days, a complete engine replacement - and it's printed in a guidebook - cost about R115.00

OK Guys, some advice please.

I am about to take delivery of a Oregon Pine table and benches that I will use on my covered outside veranda.

The table size is 3.1m x 1.1m and the benches are 3m. The Oregon has not been treated/painted in any way.

What is the best way that I can treat/paint the table and benches, and at the same time making it a little darker

30% linseed oil mixed with 70% turps - wipe it one with a cloth - do it regularly - once a month or so.

That is the type of finish I would go for, its a bit high maintenance though for some.

Woodoc have some good apply and forget for a year or two type finishes but I dont use any of their products so cant really recommend any.

My general choice of finishes are normally waxes and oils/shellacs so I would be pretty useless recommending anything.

Depends who does the maintenance... my domestic engineer just wipes wooden outside stuff down with a soaked cloth once a month.... this I regard as regular cleaning and not maintenance - and can be done over woodoc 30 as well - keeps it in good shape for much longer than 2 years...

I would go for the linseed option but it really is a bad idea as no-one is going to re-apply it as often as it needs to be done - a GIVEN.

Woodoc makes an outdoor product that I would use.

Rystix is also a briliant product but does not come in a clear clear (you figure it out)

I would use Woodoc 50, comes in a gloss or matt, add some woodoc stain to suit but test it on the underside first to get the ratios right.

Everyone gave you good advice, but if you have the time to do it properly once =

2:1 epoxy resin

1 coat is ample

3 days later, spray over with 3 layers clear coat

You children's children will one day eat at that table
