2016 thus far has been an excellent year. Like every other I guess.

1. Achieved my goal time at Ironman.

2. Completed my legal degree

3. Put in the training hours an managed to balance family, work an everyday life.

My only negative is that I was expecting a better time for the 94.7 but that's life.

Every day above ground is a good day.

Thanks for the topic Bonus ! The topic set me thinking so I decided to go thru  2016 to see what I managed.

Physical goals.

  • Ride the bike on more days of the week than I don’t.

-Almost got it right , but then since 2nd November our security fellas have prevented me from leaving camp alone. There is apparently a credible threat of Bandits kidnapping an Expat.

  • Reduce weight to 80kg then keep it between 80kg & 82kg

-Done and dusted . BMI = 23.8

  • Do 30 minutes core and upper body exercises every workday morning before work.

-Achieved about 80%, but 100% since being confined to camp by the security fellas.

  • Rebuild upper body muscles which wasted away during 2 years of Hormone blockade treatment. (Testosterone was at castrate level during treatment)

-My arms still look scrawny but now feel firm, no longer soft & flabby - So getting there.

  • Walk the steps (146 steps up the mountain side from office to camp) every day, do not ride up to the camp in the car.

-Achieved about 95% of time

Mental goals

  • Obtain a deeper understanding of soil mechanics and improve mathematical skills.

- It’s a slow process but I’m faking it till I make it.

  • Improve vocabulary.

-I get and read the “A Word A day” email every day. My favourite word this year is Ultracrepidarian. We have many of them here at work.

Spiritual goals

  • Meditate Daily for at least 20 minutes.
  • Missed this one badly.  Must change tack and allocate fixed time in evenings and stick to it. However I did a great  deal of reading on

Money goals.

  • Maximise  my earning capacity.

-I think I have managed. I earn tax free 3 times what my skill level can bring me at home.

JZ helped a great deal by sending the Rand tumbling. The Rand value of my $USD pay climbed steeply , and a1.5 months of salary bonus paid in June helped.I had 34% increase in Rand earnings over the last 12 months from the previous 12 month.

  • Increase savings rate.

-That has not been as good as it could have.

The other goals , - of  marriage and Family - have also  been met to a large extent

I was thinking of this and trying to work out what I had wanted to acheive and if I had achieved it and to what extent etc.

Then I thought sod that, I started riding a bike for the first time since being a kid so I achieved something I had not even thought of in January 2016 .

Ive had a good year

My kids are well and they all passed with flying colours

Ive done some awesome projects this year and am really enjoying my job.

I have finally got to a place where I have half a clue what I'm doing on my bike and how to train.

My mom who has cancer is still with us.

Chainsaw puts up with all my cycle related spending, talking in my sleep and my really bad cooking.

It's been a good year.

My riding has improved a lot, and I finished the Ezelduro, I did a couple of stage races and have been to some very cool trails with a lekker group of mates. I'm in a hood place wrt riding.

Business is growing, and reaching a point to where I'm starting to delegate.

But the coolest of all, is that we're starting a family very soon. That was our big goal for 2016 and the one I'm most grateful for.

Have my health, a little wealth and in a better place than many, so pretty much achieved all that I needed, to live another year, live it and enjoyed it.....

See above

Ticked a couple of boxes

Raced a couple of races

Quietly satisfied and grateful

It's been a roller-coaster year.

Some highs:

Whole bunch of A seedings for races

Feeling stronger than ever on the bike

Some lows:

Retrenchment

Sub par performance at 947 and R4V

Here's to a rocking 2017!

A few years back I posted on one or other "bad news threads" on this forum that if I was still in business in a years time it would be a miracle. Well, miracle's do happen and 2016 was a great year for my business. Finally caught up on house maintenance which had been neglected for years. Kids are doing great, still love my wife and I am looking forward to 2017.

Loved the post by RocknRolla, I too have put the very negative mind set I had on ZA's future behind me. Starting to love SA again!

Achieved what I wanted to. Spent more time on my bike than the couch. Got fitter and did at least 1 event a month. Next year I want to check the W2W off my list though
