I'm not blaming them, safety should be the number 1 priority when there are people involved. So good on them for making the unpopular choice.

I mean that it's something you have to consider when doing your planning.

Lets say they cancel the 94, there I lost R475, cancel the argus I lose 4k+.

I'm not there for a holiday, I go there to do the race. I can't afford to take a chance on something like that.

This year was different, I did the tour, so all I lost was the entry fee, my best mate flew down friday and back monday to do the race as well. That trip (guesthouses, food, flights, bike transport) set him back 7k.

At this stage in my life the CTCT is a risk I'm not willing to take. My motives are entirely financially driven.

Moral of the story, if you are going to go to CT for the CTCT then make a proper trip of it and do the Tour of Good Hope too! I did both and the CTCT being cancelled was just a minor inconvenience.

Any news from the press conference regarding the Masi protests? Has there been any engagement with the community or is it going to a 78km race from now on?

I think the turn at the start is gonna cause lots of problems. They should rather use the footbridge as a starting point. Then the rest of Strand street is also still available and it will be a straight sprint for the climb onto the freeway.

Would be nice in theory but unless the organisers are in a position to address their grievances it would be a pointless excercise. I also doubt these people have a year planner with certain dates reserved for protests.

You cannot get to the footbridge part from the Grand Parade easily.

If you are not able to negotiate a slow speed right and 90 degree bend, wait till you get to Chappies.

Watch from 25min or -12min. I think it's a really sustainable approach to dealing with the prospect of protests.

edit: can't get the video to link to FB.

Go to the CTCT facebook page and watch the video from today from the above times.

No man you can. I am talking of the foot bridge in the picture. Not the one that goes into the Golden Acre, and then also at that intersection, lower Plein street can be used as a feed to get guys to the start.

This is the only entry from the Parade to Strand street, they probably dont want to send all the tourists through a dark and dingy tunnel... Rather a little turn towards the castle.

So for an out of towner like myself, is it a good change?

Obviously the wind will hopefully be less so its good in that regard but will the whole start route be free flowing and not like a mtb race where there is single track 200m after the start and everyone but the first guy has to stop and walk.

Seriously okes still moaning about the price of Argus, (and refunds for 2017)?

It is a CHARITY EVENT. How out of touch do you need to be to be making these sort of comments?

Well looking at the diagram and the size of the start, one would guess that they would not be there on the day.

don't think they operate on a sunday anyway...CBD is mostly dead then
