Question for the guys living in Cape Town. Which weather site do you guys find the most accurate? Obviously with focus now being on CTCT especially on the wind.

I know there are going to be those who will say "just wake up, look outside and go ride". I get that. But I'm a nerd, and I like to know, so humor me here.

I live in George, and here Yr.no can be a bit off sometimes.

Your help is most appreciated!

Choose any, they all indicators and not an accurate depiction on the day. Enjoy the ride.

I find yr.no to be great for rain prediction but windguru to be more accurate for wind.

Having said that, Cape town has so many different localised weather patterns that it might be linked to where the sites are focusing their prediction on.

Most weather predicters are not accurate the further away from the day. 2/3 days out weather is normally correct give or take about 10% accuracy

Got my 2nd lap email on Friday, which is too late. Already made other arrangements based on a finish time of around 3:15.

Those worried about the time you need on your first lap - don't be. I was worried too my first time but if you stick in your start batch and not waste time at the finish you'll make it. Relax.

Last year I started in 1G and rode a 3:12, hit lots of red lights on the way back to the start from the finish - still had time to spare in the start chute for the 2nd lap.

I also got mailed on Friday. I'm not doing it based on lack of ability. Besides if the way too early wind forecasts are correct I'm riding my MTB and taking 5 hours.

Wait, tell me you also blame it on taking a bike that was 2 sizes too small and a 15 year old 26er?

I use accuweather most of the time. Windguru does give very accurate long term forecast and it tends to agree with accuweather most of the time. When the two diverge accuweather seems to come out with the accurate prediction.

That's not the issue. I've ridden in gale force winds and enjoyed it too. But that wasn't in a race pack. It's not the wind per se that's the problem but the consequent high speed crashes - which can result in extremely severe injuries, even fatalities. There's a difference between being tough and being stupid.

My experience in bunch riding is that when the conditions are hazardous, everybody (ok most riders) are more cautious and it is still relatively save in the bunch. It is on wide open roads in perfect conditions where the minds switch off and the nasty crashes happen.

I see the wind predictions are trending downwards. Accuweather now says 22km/h and with gusts of 52km/h. That should be fine.

Which is what the forecast showed two weeks ago!
