[Event] Coronation Double Century 2019

What a great event and even better to be surprised with a tail-wind at the turn after Drew.

I wonder how many people got tripped up by the sandy section at the bridge just before the three sisters though?

Also seemed to be a year of many, many punctures.

Can't wait until next year's event now.

I think it was dry/powder cement. Saw a rider standing there obviously just after his fall with just his eyes visible. He was not happy

Was there a lady involved as well? Saw medics helping her in the aftermath of what seemed a big crash just before Montagu

Was it your team that went down? One of your lady riders looked like she was knocked out and likely concussed based on the helmet damage

Yes. that was us. was not a nice crash. all riders that went down caught a lift to the finish in the ambulance.

some are still getting assessed in hospital this morning.

we are holding thumbs nothing to serious

our team was in purple and blue kit.

Haven't read the rules again but I seem to recall a time when it was against the rules to draft behind other teams. Yes a lot of us still did it occasionally but you at least felt a bit guilty and sometimes could get an angry telling off from the opposing team captain.

Nowadays it seems pretty much standard race strategy for a lot of teams (at least those not competing for podium). A bit annoying imo but I guess pointless to have a rule that's impossible to consistently enforce so maybe better to just live with the free-for-all situation?

Its tough to pull away into a headwind but we managed to open up a few gaps and deadwheels on the tailwind sections. This was the friendliest DC I have done, did not have a single issue with any other teams. We rode against some really strong teams, ASG, Daiken and Cyclopaths.

It was a lekka one, I totally agree. Some teams deliberately draft others with the only intention of getting a free ride. But like the guy say, difficult to pull away or overtake in a headwind. The savages really outdid themselves this year, great going

Please convey best wishes to them for full recovery. It looked serious and ugly. A few of our team members stopped to see if they could help but it looked beyond any of our first aid capability.

Did my first DC, will definitely be back next year. (We did 4h38)

My opinion is fastest teams should start first as we had to navigate through loads of traffic.

that is a bit fast... well done!

1000% agree.

the number of close calls when a slower rider deviated off their line as we were passing was unreal. made it unnecessarily dangerous.

speed differences at some points must have easily been over 20km/h

They started the ladies "First" so they could race each other.

They are not able to get the passes closed for longer, hence why its the reverse start. Less total time on the road.

Cant keep roads closed all day, so then traffic becomes safety issues

the fast teams are suppose to know how to ride a bike and pass without issues.

we passed alot, got passed few times..  just shouted alot and all knew what was going on, no issues at all..

someone will plow into a slower rider at some stage.

i guarantee it.

into a headwind there is very little chance of the group ahead hearing the calls
