DR ◣◢ Posted July 29, 2020 Share OT we have two dogs...both went through all the training classes and socialisation they needed when younger. They are both such cool dogs at home. The older one still is when in public...he's that dog everyone can pet. We used to be able to take our dogs to restaurants...thats how well behaved and good tempered they were. But we had an incident at a park when the younger one was around a year old. A unleashed larger dog came over and basically bullied the dog into submission. He has become so fearful and anxious around other dogs since that...it has been an uphill struggle. Now it's a double whammy....I cant seem to resocialise or get him comfortable around other dogs at parks because every second dog is off leash and he basically wants to kill everything that gets too close now....and then those same people give you grief for bringing an "aggressive" dog to the park... sucks. That grinds my gears so much. My dog is the "aggressive" one because his off-leash dog came as started a fight... Too bad you're in Cape Town. I have a fantastic behaviouralist up here that could help. MORNE

Got rolled and mauled by a GSD (no wounds, though, thankfully) but since then was never entirely comfortable around big dogs. BUT. When I'd take him for a jog he'd be off-lead and on perfect behaviour. Stayed by me, and would just keep on runnning with me. Just carry on running and give him a little "Yip!" if he lags or his attention wavers when another dog approaches. MORNE
dave303e Posted July 29, 2020 Share Was this PB attempt when the park was quiet or on a weekend? While I do agree that all dogs by law should be on a lead you also can't expect a public park to be a race track for PBs. 6:45 am on a weekend. I used roads for a lot of it and quieter parts of the spruit where there are less walkers and dogs for that exact reason. I was doing an out and back route, started the bottom end of Alberts farm and then cruised through the roads of Montgomery park and Rooseveld and turned long before Delta Park. The incident was on the triangle between Milner and 7th Street below Alberts Farm before I ran down John Adamson street so it was not somewhere I expected a dog off lead. I agree 100% that trying to run a pb in Delta or between delta and the Trail head would be stupid. Typically between the parks it is mostly runners and cyclists not as many dogs, kids and walkers. And me running at pb pace is pretty much easy cruising pace for most on a mtb. We walk our hounds daily in Delta, you can see who has control of their dogs and who doesn't. Pure Savage Posted July 29, 2020 Share Really need to get my ass in gear when it comes to exercise these days. I think the last time my wife and I went out for a run, we were in level 4 lockdown, and we took turns with who went for a run as one of us had to stay at home to watch our daughter. Now with us both back at work and our daughter back at school, the only time we could out for a run is after work or on weekends, and then it's not the safest as the crime has spiked a tad in our area - I'm not so worried about myself but it's the Mrs I worry could be mugged or attacked if she went out alone for a run.Crime is out of control, I have been held up at knife point and the local bike shop here was hit last night with a whole bunch of new bikes stolen. The real pandemic in SA is now hitting home. MDJ, WeekendWarrior80 and DieselnDust
ChrisF Posted July 29, 2020 Share OT we have two dogs...both went through all the training classes and socialisation they needed when younger. .... Morne where did you take your dogs for training ? Maritz has a rescue dog, Rover, some Labrador and something else .... They got Rover shortly before the lockdown, and now needs a place to take Rover for training .... Reasonably well behaved at home. But not nice to take for a walk as it continually PULLS forward .... Bellville, Northern Suburbs would be ideal. When I sell something, I do have the original proof of ownership ..... We need to get in the habit of asking for this to stem this crime spree. The real pandemic in SA is now hitting home.I would've been held at knife point the other afternoon outside work if I had opened my driver's side window when a skabenga approached me in the parking outside work. Looked like he was asking for a bit of dosh, although I didn't take any chances so I reversed and off I went. Fortunately we have a guard who knows who's skabenga's and who's not skabenga's in the area. Pure Savage

Stephan Posted July 30, 2020 Share Not sure where to search for an answer or post the question about the lockdown restrictions on exercise, so here goes: What does the current LAW say about exercise curfew? Is the 6am - 6pm exercise law still in place? Or has this been lifted and replaced with the general 4am - 9pm (soon-to-be 10pm) curfew? Or are both still in place? I will really appreciate some clarity on this.

Rest is "business as usual" ..... On Saturday the coffee area at our local trail looked like a school bazaar, thankfully it is easy to get to the trail and be on your own while keeping a distance from this crowd. The hard reality - apparently the Western Cape is registering less new cases ... BUT, our daily death rate is typically 45 to 50 per day .... By all means, get out and about, but try to stay safe out there Hubbers. Had to smile on the way back from the trail though .... on the one hand you have crowds congregating, on the other end of the spectrum you see a couple of cars with a single occupant, wearing a mask ...
