Backyard Bike Checks: Show Your Bike Some Love and Win

Bike Hub Features

Recommended Posts

Bike 2 is the 99 trek  - I think it was the first full carbon bike to finish at the front of the TDF and it was the first time a customer could go out and buy the same bike off the shelf that the pros were riding.  It's a really significant bike marred by the controversial rider.  None of Lance's antics  can detract from the fact that he got me  (and thousands of others) back on a bike.  I don't know anyone who quit because he was bust

Mine is resplendent in period incorrect Super Record 11 and I did the 2018 Argus on it - it lives on old school mag trainer these days and gets ridden when I watch cycling

A slight sidetrack for a moment  - coincidentally saw this today : https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ebay-finds-lance-armstrong-replica-trek-5500-oclv/

Momsen STR

this will be my round block or more extensive rides bike since im dealing with and injury right now and giving enduro riding a break for a few years.

Single speed and rigid ofcourse

Highlights include:

Hope BB and 30mm crank

Hope Tech race evo brakes

Yellow ODi valve "jobies"

14 of the parts on this bike were bought here and come from all over the country and different hubbers

having just riden it around the block a couple of times I'm very excited to put some miles on it , the feeling of steel just can't be beat

First up...

2015 Spaz Camber Comp Carbon

- Fox CTD squishy bits (they suck)

- cSixx Carbon Bar with some ESI extra chunky grips

- Lyne 125mm dropper and Spaz Power Saddle Arc

2nd...

My Silverback Slade.

- Frame bought from a Hubber who stripped and painted it himself. I think it came out beautifully.

- Fox 34 Performance Elite Fit4 Damper 150mm

- Roval Traverse Wheels with DT350 hubs, Maxxis Agressor and Minion DHF Rubber

- Shimano XT brakeset

- Sram XO1 Groupo with GX cranks

- Lyne 170mm dropper with Spaz Henge Saddle

- One Up Pump, and EDC in the steerer

- ODI Rogue grips

This bike is a ton of fun. I also occassionalu run it mullet style with a 650bx2.8" wheel on the back - this with a 130mm airspring in the fork to correct the geo.

THE WORK HORSE: GT Meatball

She is my daily commuter, and we have done many a thousand km together through good and bad weather.

The only orgional components left on the bike is the fixie cog, the frame/fork/headset and brakes.

Wheels replaced with a set of Wheels ex. Rook Cycles

Saddle is a Spaz Phenom I got from a fellow commuter that was torn, so I indulged in a glass of red wine and decided to re-upholster the saddle is a ox blood leather. This now shows nice wear and tear.

Tyres are a new set of 700x35c that managed to fit into the frame and something I am looking forward to giving a spin.

She has had a wipe down, a serious clean only happens once or twice a year with her ... as long as the drive train is clean, then all is good to go!

Rest of the bits and bobs were replaced for better fit or due breakage.

Fun fact, the GT Meatball logo reflects/glows in the dark when you shine a light on it or take pic with a flash.

THE PLAY BIKE: 2018 YT Jeffsy 29'er Base Model

A reasonably recent purchase earlier in the year from Black Sheep Bikes. I was fortunate enough to pic her up as a Demo Bike.

She is all stock other than the New Reverb dropper post that replaced the nice to use, but crappy build E-13 dropper.

Fell in love with this bike on the first ride, and have never had a bad day out on her.

A bit of a rash from being used as a demo bike  :(

She has been getting around and will need new takkies soon.

Gorilla Tape works well as frame protection.

post-5403-0-37728100-1586101974_thumb.jpeg

A very simple change made by the RS design team as part of their attempt to make a dropper with a reduced "stack" in order to get more stroke on the dropper. They inverted the rails ... so simple.

THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: Momsen STR (2) SS Build

This build has taken far too long to complete, and she is still not 100% done as yet.

The frame was a lucky purchase from a hubber.

Niner Rigid fork ex. Chewiabablal

Brakes ex. that Swiss dude .... promised him I would never sell them, and think they are on their 4th bike build now.

Carbon Roval Wheels ex. a fellow commuter

Skinwall Ardents ex. CWC sale

And the rest of the goodies I had lying around from previous builds.

I do need to replace the stem with a 60 or 70mm option

She needs new grips

The Giant Dropper needs to be connected to the lever

Rear disc rotor to be fitted. ... but both would ideally need to be replaced with new 180mm rotors.

We have only been for a ride in the driveway thanks to COVD-19 Lock Down
