"Show your bike some love and win"

You asked and I will show.

My Pyga has had a rough life (she thinks so as all kids do). Having been raised as one of many many children, she often had to compete with the beauty of her Colnago sisters, the prestige of her US postal Trek of a brother and the waif thin 7.4kg Open hardtail that was the apple of her father's eye. Living amongst these beauties was not easy and one day the Stage decided that standard colours just wouldn't do so she went out and got herself a radiant paint job. Glitter infused purple gloss paint that would be at home on the nails of a seapoint hooker and bright orange decals to match. Now her siblings had something to envy and with her new looks in hand she decided to leave her family in the Cape and find a new home (in my garage). Paint isn't everything though, you have to be clean too. I've taken the time to strip her down, clean and polish every square mm, grease the pivots and weigh every component in preparation for putting her back together.

Time for some of that love you asked for...

I'll add more from after the rebuild as soon as it is complete.

THE WORK HORSE: GT Meatball

She is my daily commuter, and we have done many a thousand km together through good and bad weather.

The only orgional components left on the bike is the fixie cog, the frame/fork/headset and brakes.

Wheels replaced with a set of Wheels ex. Rook Cycles

Saddle is a Spaz Phenom I got from a fellow commuter that was torn, so I indulged in a glass of red wine and decided to re-upholster the saddle is a ox blood leather. This now shows nice wear and tear.

Tyres are a new set of 700x35c that managed to fit into the frame and something I am looking forward to giving a spin.

She has had a wipe down, a serious clean only happens once or twice a year with her ... as long as the drive train is clean, then all is good to go!

Rest of the bits and bobs were replaced for better fit or due breakage.

Fun fact, the GT Meatball logo reflects/glows in the dark when you shine a light on it or take pic with a flash.

The paint is translucent, so you see the brushed alum underneath.

So nice.

That is serious attention to detail and pretty sure your Seapoint hooker purple pyga will appreciate the love

I don't really have a Backyard so my balcony will have to do.

My 2011 Intense M9 FRO. One of only 4 brought into SA and one of only 2 blue ones brought into SA. The fork is an Ex Andrew Neethling fork from when he was on Trek. It saw duty at Sea Otter and then made it's way on to a IH Sunday and then on to this lady. I bought the bike from a mate for 12k. I had a set of deemax banging about so I sold the wheels for 2k. So I paid 10k. I have a set of CK hubs and 650b rims waiting to be built up. She can take 650b in the long setting

First up: My 2019 Stumpy Expert.

Fairly stock, but pimped with the following touches:

  • Upgraded Guide R brakeset to Code RSC. Ridiculous power.
  • Replaced stock 50mm stem and 31.8 bar with a 45mm Lyne AMP 35 with a 780mm AMP 35 Carbon bar.
  • Ditched the front Butcher, running Eliminator Grid 2.6 front, Ground Control Grid 2.6 rear. Rolls faster, corners more predictably.
  • Rebuilt the rear rim onto a Roval Traverse SL (DT Swiss 350 internals) hub with its amazing star ratchet. Zzzzzzzzz.
  • Most of the high-impact areas have been carefully wrapped.
  • I hate clatter, so my cable management is OCD. Note the foam wraps at strategic points to eliminate noise.
