I’m supposed to be traveling to Europe in May so have to get a booster, even though I wasn’t initially planning to.

Dunno about the rest of eu…or well the EU for that matter( post brexit lol), but its not required by UK…or even OZ for that matter (like i mentioned, the old lady is here from oz).

OZ actually require their own citizens to have at least 3, but foreigners may have 2. Uk you just need proof of double vax, not even a PCR before flight anymore.

Friends that are planning overseas trips are stepping back and not taking the booster "now".  They are watching their destination country's requirements, and "timing" any possible booster to best suit their planned arrival dates.

Also know a number of medical staff that delayed getting the J&J booster, and are now getting the Phizer  (effectively their second shot)

For the general public, not impacted by travel or work requirements, very few are going for the booster.  To the point where SA is facing significant stocks of vaccines about to expire.

It is amazing how populations' trust of government and general outlook on life changes shapes their decisions. Over here everyone has taken their boosters at exactly the time the government recommended.

From this table is seems only about 16 000 000 out of 60 000 000 are fully vaccinated in SA.  With a significantly smaller percentage going for the booster.

More reliable data suggests 29% of South African are fully vaccinated and 5% are partially vaccinated: https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=OWID_WRL

Most trackers seem to have it as 30% fully vaccinated and 5% partially.

Pretty low but not terrible.

I never trust informatics - they're far too easy to fake.

But don't forget the Recoverd's they are way more than the the vaxed. Damn I was vaxed and more than once infected and recovered. But I presume at least 60 to 70% of the informal settlements were not vaxed but infected.

If you don't know and don't care and do not have access to media you just move on. Yes Covid is dangerous but not more so that drinking and walking in a highway etc.

If you have no money and no transport and don't know about these things then you don't care.

Agreed on the "vaccination through illness" - hopefully enough people get sick/vaxxed to hit herd immunity globally. Fortunately Omicron (seems) less dangerous and more contagious - the perfect combo to vax people really fast!

Not sure about the drinking and walking on the highway comparison though. Around 14,000 people a year are killed on SA roads. Covid is on around 50,000 a year....

More people got Covid than walked on the road drunk.

Agreed. Covid is a larger threat to South Africans than walking drunk on a highway.

With the release of the Pfizer side effects and the high mortality rate from the jab I doubt the numbers are going to go anywhere soon.

As I said earlier that is probably true for South Africa but for people that don't believe the vaccine conspiracies (like most of Europe) the vaccine numbers look pretty healthy.

High vaccine mortality rate 😆😆😆😆

Well with being in bed and researching return to sport protocols after a gnarly couple of days wrestling with rona, I regret not getting my booster shot.

Doc reckons I got one of the Deltas floating around, so much for my "meh, omnicrom is light music" attitude I had.

I would gladly eat the humble pie, but the screws and crushed gravel in my throat makes it a bit hard to swallow right now.

I'm just glad I got it after the one event I aimed for last year. Will find something to aim for and work up to it. Probably late in the year to give myself enough time to build up slowly.

Protocol returning after Covid is the following:

5 days of no riding

Day 5 - 8 light riding 1.5-2hrs zone 1 low 2

Day 8 build up to typical volume but no intensity. You have to build volume before intensity

However if symptoms remain or return you need to back off from exercise and training.

Requirement for NL is to be “Fully Vaccinated”, and is defined as having “1x J&J” or “2x Pfizer” for us Saffas.

It is recommended to have the booster, but not mandatory. I’ll go there boosted.

Same here. I was putting it off and wish I got it. I felt so poef even with the two jabs, can't imagine how I would have felt without them. Hope you feel better soon.
I have sent my bike to the spa for a full body scrub and massage so I won't be tempted to ride for a while.

We only got our messages last week. Since you’re not supposed to exercise for two weeks after the jab apparently, we are postponing it until after ctct.
