it's a bit different than that and I think that's why it's so difficult to stay in the front group till the end.

You pretty much have one all out VO2 max effort up Edinburg, then Smits is a 9-10mins effort in total but in 2021 it just started going fast on the last 4 mins so still technically a VO2 max effort, but if this year it goes like we've done Bothman's a few times in the last few months, it could be a 10 mins effort with a very very hard last couple minutes...

And chappies is a very hard 2 mins into a very hard 4 mins, but all in all you don't get to recover at all between little chappies and the main climb....

That's why I'm mostly working on my 10 mins efforts rather than very specific 4/5 mins efforts at the moment, also because there's tour du cap before and it has longer climbs as well...

in 2021 50% of the time I was in Zone 4 and close to 30% of the time in Zone 5, there wasnt really much more to give

If you have good climbing ability, people tend to forget what damage the few climbs on Argus can take on your average speed.

Doesn't help you can keep an average of 35 everywhere else, but on the climbs it tanks. Those couple of Kms of climbing destroy whatever average you had before that.

correct, I was at mid 30s at smits, dropped to high 20s by the time I finished suikers, but having the fitness last year I was able to put my head down and pick it up to high 29s by the finish.

Thats why the goal for this years fitness is more hills, so by 2023 I'll be a stronger climber.

yeah that was rather sneeky. I suspect there are some politics at play with 947.

What it means is the only seeding race I did for this years CTCT was last years CTCT.

Racetec is/was owned by the Cycle Tour. 94.7 organisers dropped them as time timekeepers

So I guess its both politics and the practicalities of loading 1000s of records from another IT system purely for a seeding run.

If you had a good 94.7 I'm sure you can still use that at registration to ask for a better seeding.

1B .

I feel a curious mixture of pride, disbelief, knowledge that the system is wonky and outright fear.

Can THIS year be the year that I put the tow rope on your seapost you you pull me all the way up Mandela Blvrd and then Edinbrough Please, as this plan never quite worked out last year.

spreadsheet wont allow edits

actual time was 3:41

yeah I kind of didn't want to allow edits to avoid people changing other peoples data, but looks like most people don't know how to comment spreadsheets ;)

yeah, I'm wondering how I'm going to get from 3:40 to under 3:30. The only place I can think of to make up the time is the hills. But I've left the hill training a little late.

"A Good Day" will get you that improvement  without any effort.🙂
